One of the latest gimmicks in tourism is the running tour. Guided tours have started up in both Chicago and Washington, DC.
“Now, for the first time, tourists and locals alike can get a newfound view of each cities’ historical sites and notable landmarks, all while getting in some healthy exercise,” says City Running Tours, which announced the launch of DC RUN and CHICAGO RUN.
The company also offers one-on-one runs for fitness enthusiasts and runners who are visiting or live in Washington, D.C. or Chicago.
“The ideal summer activity, guided running tours are a tourism trend that is sweeping the nation,” says the site.
Similar to a walking tour, sightseeing with DC RUN or CHICAGO RUN involves running side-by-side with a guide who, along the way, points out sites and conveys the history of that particular site as well as little-known facts.
The site says all of their guides are experienced runners who are well versed in the city’s history.
The company picks the runner up at their hotel or a central meeting place, operating 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Founded in 2006, City Running Tours started last year in New York City with NYC RUN.
The company was started by a native New Yorker and avid runner who wanted to combine the two passions in his life, running and the Big Apple. Other cities are expected to be added
