Qantaslink adds flights in Queensland

QantasLink today announced that it had signed an agreement with Alliance Airlines to operate a 100-seat Fokker 100 aircraft on the Brisbane-Mackay route from 23 June 2008.

Qantas Group General Manager Regional Airlines, Mr Narendra Kumar, said the agreement would enable the Qantas Group to increase capacity on the key mining and tourism route and reinstate some services that were temporarily suspended due to pilot attrition recently experienced by QantasLink.

“The arrangement will result in an extra 584 seats per week on the Brisbane-Mackay route, increasing Qantas Group capacity on the route to more than 10,000 seats per week,” he said.

Mr Kumar said the Qantas Group offered the most comprehensive schedule with more frequency, capacity and service options from Mackay to Queensland destinations than any other airline, including:

• 21 Jetstar Brisbane-Mackay weekly return services operated by 177-seat A320 aircraft;

• 13 QantasLink Brisbane-Mackay weekly return services operated by 100-seat Fokker 100 aircraft;

• 14 QantasLink weekly return services to Rockhampton and Gladstone operated by Bombardier Q400 72- seat and Q300 50-seat aircraft; and

• 19 QantasLink return services to Townsville and Cairns operated by Bombardier Q400 72-seat and Q300 50-seat aircraft.

Mr Kumar also said QantasLink would reinstate a service and upgrade key services from 23 June 2008, as follows:

• the 8:55am Brisbane-Mackay service and the 11:00am Mackay-Brisbane service would be reinstated; and • the overnight service leaving Brisbane at 6.35pm and departing the following morning from Mackay at 6.45am would be upgraded from the 72-seat Q400 to the 100-seat Fokker 100 aircraft.

Mr Kumar said that under the terms of the agreement with Alliance Airlines, the Fokker 100 aircraft would be operated by the Queensland-based company’s crew and serviced by their engineers, but operate as a QantasLink service.

He said all Qantas Frequent Flyers would be eligible to earn and redeem points when travelling on this service and Qantas Club members would be entitled to access Qantas Club lounge services. In addition, all QantasLink customers travelling on this aircraft would benefit from well-timed connections and throughchecked baggaGet Your Dive Gear Herege to and from Sydney, Melbourne and other Qantas destinations.

QantasLink operates around 2000 flights each week servicing 52 metropolitan and regional destinations throughout Australia, including 19 cities and towns in Queensland.
