This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Abergavenny Food Festival which takes place in Wales over the weekend of September 20th and 21st. And, for the first time, there will also be a ‘Fringe Festival’ taking place September 13th through 21st showcasing smaller local events such as food trails, wine-tasting, community suppers and exhibitions.
Abergavenny is considered by many to be the “foodie capital” of Wales as it offers a year-round monthly farmers’ market (fourth Thursday of each month) as well as a weekly general and food market on Saturdays. The town also boasts plentiful restaurants and shops, and a growing selection of artisan food makers. The town is set against the mountains of Skirrid, Sugar Loaf and Blorenge, at the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The Victorian market hall provides the stunning location for food markets and events throughout the year and during the festival.
The annual food festival attracts visitors from around the world and is the highlight of the Welsh culinary calendar. It offers a wealth of tasting opportunities, cooking demonstrations and the chance to meet established and up-and-coming chefs and authors. More than 100 specialty producers from Wales are on hand with local food on sale including welsh cheese, meat and mushroom pates, Black Mountains Honey, and welsh wine and beer.
Details of the festival line-up are announced in July, so check the festival website for news and to sign-up for email alerts.
