Visitors looking to explore Hadrian’s Wall in the north of England can do so without the need to hire a car, helping to minimize the carbon footprint of their vacation.
Already popular with hikers and cyclists, the World Heritage Site can now be explored by taking the Hadrian’s Wall Country Bus, operating from March 21 through November 2, 2008.
Two cities - Newcastle and Carlisle - located at each end of Hadrian’s Wall, can be easily reached by train from across Britain.
The bus departs from each of those cities, and stops off at all of the major Roman attractions along the line of the wall. The service has regular buses running daily, and conveniently drops passengers right at the entrance of some of the major forts and sites including Chester’s Roman Fort, Roman Vindolanda and Bridoswald Roman Fort.
“Rover Tickets” provide unlimited travel on the bus and cost £7.50 for one-day, £15 for three-days or £30 for seven-days. Two of the seven daily services include a commentary from expert guides. The bus passes through quaint market towns and villages, where travelers can book a range of accommodation options if required.
