Fernando de Noronha is an archipelago of 21 islands located 354 km off the Brazilian coast and belongs to the State of Pernambuco.

The islands of this archipelago are the visible parts of a range of submerged mountains of volcanic origin. The main island, from which the group gets its name, makes up 91% of the total area; the islands of Rata, Sela Gineta, Cabeluda and São Jose, together with the islets of Leão and Viúva make up the rest.

The climate is tropical, with two well defined seasons: the rainy season from January to August, and the dry season for the rest of the year. Most of the original vegetation of the islands has been replaced by vines and bushes, but the main attraction is its maritime flora and fauna. One can spot enormous sea tortoises, dolphins, albatrosses, among many others.

Fernando de Noronha has one of the most pristine natural environments in the world and is a top choice for divers. Year after year, one of its many beaches is chosen by the specialized press as the best in all Brazil .
