WWII Ship Travels Mississippi Summer 2008
In August and September 2008, the USS LST-325, a World War II amphibious vessel, will cruise on the Mississippi River. It will be docking in four different cities for extended periods for public tours.
The floating museum ship (which is almost as long as a football field!) is the only working LST ship remaining out of 1,050 built.
The LST-325 is a World War II amphibious vessel designed to land battle-ready tanks, troops and supplies directly onto enemy shores. Ships of this type proved to be enormously useful during times of war and peace both.
The LST-325 is a decommissioned tank landing ship of the U.S. Navy, now docked for tours in Evansville, Indiana. Like many of her class, she was not
named and is properly referred to by her hull designation (LSTs in service after July 1955 were named after U.S. counties and parishes).
Scheduled Itinerary
Aug. 20-26 - Hannibal, MO
Aug. 27-Sept. 3 - Moline, IL - Quad Cities
Sept. 3-9 - Clinton, IA
Sept. 9-15 - Ft. Madison, IA
