Located between South Africa and Namibia, Botswana is remote and wild. Flying deep into the Okavango Delta, guests discover a secret oasis in an otherwise water-starved land. This is the predator capital of Africa, with lions, leopard, cheetah, elephants, giraffe, zebra and impala. In addition to game-viewing, guests will visit a nearby Sixaxa village for insight into how the animals affect the daily lives of the indigenous people.

They get a personal view of cultural traditions of childrearing, marriage, divorce and the duties of the various family members. Women will demonstrate the preparation and presentation of traditional foods and show how they use different natural materials to build their homes, which consist of a thatched sleeping house, kitchen area and livestock enclosure.

After a week in the bush, the tour continues on an optional extension to Cape Town, Africa’s Mother City. A guided tour of the District Six Museum documents the injustices of the apartheid era. Participants then will see the work of the Amy Biel Foundation, where 3,000 children now have the opportunity to learn and develop skills to become the country’s future leaders: the Amy Biehl Music Program teaches 6th and 7th graders music theory and practice; the Youth Reading Role Models program enlists 7th graders to read to 1st graders; the Buthisizwe Training Centre provides instruction on block making, sewing, and aluminum window-frame making. Wings Over Botswana (Nov. 24- Dec. 4, 2008) is an 11-day program priced from $6,995 per person.
