A lounge made entirely of ice is set to open at Mandalay Place, located adjacent to Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, in September.

The first permanent ice lounge of its kind in the U.S., the 2,000-square-foot Minus 5 Experience is a sub-freezing ice lounge that is owned and operated by the New Zealand-based Minus 5 Group.

As guests enter the lounge they will don Minus 5-issued parkas and booties and will be served ice glasses filled with vodka-based cocktails (or “mocktails” for kids and non-drinkers). The lounge will feature intricately hand-crafted ice sculptures and architecture, including ice couches, and the temperature will be kept at -5 degrees Celsius or 23 degrees Fahrenheit. The venue also will feature the much warmer Minus 5 Lodge, an adjacent rustic pub themed after great arctic explorers.

Group catering is available with a menu by Chef Rick Moonen of rm seafood restaurant at Mandalay Place. Among the possible events will be “ice wedding” ceremonies, with colorful stained “ice” windows and pews, ice sculptures and an ice candelabra. Brides will be outfitted with a white satin, fur-trimmed cape. Admission into the ice lounge is $30 and includes a cocktail.
