Hilton Beijing Wangfujing Launches First of Two Signature Restaurants –

-Vascos Chef de Cuisine Ricardo Bizarro Beijing, China, 8th September 2008 – Hilton Beijing Wangfujing today announced the launch of Vasco’s, one of the few fine dining Macanese restaurants in Beijing.

Designed to be one of Beijing’s most exotic and distinctive culinary ports of call, Vasco’s offers guests a relaxing respite for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with stunning views over Beijing. The 140 seat coastal-inspired setting of “Old Macau” includes a visually exciting show kitchen for breakfast where aspiring gourmands can follow the preparation of their meal.

“Vasco’s delivers an innovative dining experience combined with the impeccable Hilton service standards. The interiors were inspired by “Old Macau’s” sleepy, coastal retreats, while the design approach meets the high standards, for which the Hilton brand is known” said Nils-Arne Schroeder, General Manager of Hilton Beijing Wangfujing.

The menu designed by Chef de Cuisine Ricardo Bizarro offers a delectable pastiche of global cuisine combining the exotic cultures of Portugal, China and India to create Macanese cuisine. The menu is varied with a strong focus on local and seasonal produce. The dishes are light, healthy and bursting with succulent flavor and created to be shared.

The menu begins with an assortment of seafood inspired creations including roasted home made Portuguese sausage served with “Peixinhos da Horta”; marinated octopus on a bed of chickpeas, tomato and fresh parsley salad with codfish cakes; “Caldo Verde”, Vegetable soup with Portuguese sausage, “duck gratin” served with brown rice, Portuguese sausage and cheese or charcoal grilled African spiced organic chicken served with truffled potato mash. The daily selection features fresh seafood prepared to your liking; the chef recommends either red snapper baked “Portuguese Style” with fresh parsley, served with potato, onion, garlic and mesclun greens or live “Mud crab” with home made curry sauce.

For those with a sweet tooth, there are plenty of delectable treats to satisfy the senses. A stellar dessert selection includes the traditional Macanese “Pasteis de Nata” egg tarts, served with a shot of milk tea, “Serradura” ice cream condensed milk flavour ice cream with cookie crumble “Brisas do Lis” almond tarts accompanied by ginger ice and cinnamon cream or decadent coconut panna cotta with seared mangos, served with fresh guava sorbet and home-made taro chips.

To further enhance the dining experience, Vasco’s also introduces diners to the epicurean delights of water, with Beijing’s first ever Water Master who shares his knowledge on the particular characteristics that give various waters their unique flavors, as well as recommended food pairings, stemware suggestions, and optimum serving temperatures for enjoying both still and sparkling waters.

Get Your Tropical Gear Here Blue plate studios, the specialized food and beverage division of internationally acclaimed interior design firm Wilson Associates, is responsible for the conceptual design and development of the restaurants & lounges of Hilton Beijing Wangfujing. The executive design director, Dan Kwan, celebrated for his innovative approach to restaurant design conceptualised the vision of Vasco’s.

“I wanted to create a restaurant concept for the next generation of diners, a relaxed coastal setting that engages all the senses” says Dan.

Highly textured surfaces, oversized windows, grey marbled floors, distinctive friezes, inspiring objects d’arts and white washed wooden ceilings create a sense of openness, style and sophistication.

Vasco’s is open daily from 06:30 am to 10:30 am for breakfast, 11:30 am to 02:30 pm for lunch and 6pm to 11pm for dinner. Get ready to truly travel the world – right at your table!
