LAS VEGAS – Opportunity Village launches its new Web site giving participants the ability to register for the 2008 Las Vegas Great Santa Run by visiting www.LasVegasSantaRun.org. Registration is $35 prior to the race and $45 on race day 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Fremont Street Experience.
In addition to registering for the Las Vegas Great Santa Run, the Web site allows participants to create their own fundraising pages, inviting friends and family to help raise money for people with disabilities. They can create personal profiles, which allows them to share with other participants and visitors to the site their story behind what inspired them to sign up and anyone who may have inspired them in the process.
The current world record for the Santa Run was set in 2005 with 3,291 participants in the Liverpool Santa Dash in the UK. In 2007, the Las Vegas Great Santa Run had nearly 8,000 participants; the Guinness Book of World Records has yet to announce the 2007 winner. Representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records will be present to witness and document the historic event.
The Las Vegas Great Santa Run serves as a fundraising effort to benefit Opportunity Village, an attempt to break the current world record for the largest Santa gathering and to provide a light-spirited warm-up run for participants in The Las Vegas Marathon the following day. Opportunity Village is a Las Vegas-based, not-for-profit organization that serves people with intellectual disabilities to improve the quality of their lives and the lives of their families. Opportunity Village is the largest private provider of vocational training, employment, advocacy and recreation for people with disabilities in Nevada and is currently serving hundreds of people with severe disabilities every day.
