Academic Arrangements Abroad has limited space available on several European river cruises with an educational focus. The “Flemish Landscapes & Masterpieces of Art,” operates April 15-25, starting with two nights in The Hague before cruising aboard the Heidelberg from Amsterdam to Delft, Bruges and Antwerp.
Study leader Michael Weisham, former host of the PBS series “The Victory Garden,” accompanies travelers to public and private gardens. Metropolitan Museum of Art Curator Maryan Ainsworth will lecture about the art on view in museums and cathedrals. “Princely Domains” operates May 11-23 and spends two nights each in Krakow and Prague before boarding the Katharina to cruise on the Elbe River to Berlin.
Calls are scheduled for Meissen, Wittenberg and Magdeburg. Highlights include a private performance by a trio of musicians and receptions with local royalty. Art historian Joan Macy Kaskell will accompany the trip. The “Basel Art Fair & Rhine River Cruise,” operating June 5-13, sails on the Heidelberg from Dusseldorf to Cologne, Mainz, Heidelberg and Strasbourg.
Accompanying is Metropolitan Museum of Art fellow Andree Hayum, who has written a book about Mattias Grunwald’s Isenheim Altarpiece, which will be viewed in Colmar.
The cruise ends in Basel, where the Basel Art Fair will be taking place.
