June 10, 2009 on 7:21 am | In Adventure Travel, Israel, Middle East | Comments Off

The new “Peace Be within thy Palaces – Jerusalem Antiquities at the Israel Knesset” archaeological garden opened last month on the grounds of Israel’s parliament in Jerusalem.

The garden features more than fifty artifacts ranging in date from the Second Temple period to the Ottoman period, including a 2,000-year-old stone from the Second Temple Mount wall, an ancient olive press, mosaics and an Ottoman sabil, or drinking device.

“The new archaeological garden will provide visitors to Israel with an exciting contrast to the bustling activity of the Knesset,” says Arie Sommer, Commissioner of Tourism, North and South America.

“It will surely contribute to the list of amazing archaeological sites around Israel.”

The archaeological garden also features a visitors’ path decorated with flora that are characteristic of Israel in ancient times.

The Barai a winning spa

June 9, 2009 on 1:41 pm | In Asia, Beachbooker, Spa Resorts, Thailand | Comments Off

Spa Days – Get Ready for Summer
THE BARAI recently received another achievement at the Asia Spa & Wellness Festival 2009, winning two Gold Awards in the categories of “Best Resort Spa”, which emphasises guests’ experiences, and “Best Spa Ambience”, which recognises THE BARAI’s unique interior design, where the art of architecture affects guests’ feelings while they embark on a THE BARAI Journey. THE BARAI is the latest residential spa in the Hyatt Pure Spa family and a pioneer in the spa industry in terms of design concept, being the first of its kind.

The Asia Spa & Wellness Festival 2009’s Awards are dubbed the most prestigious recognition of spas and wellness centres in Asia. The Festival is organised by AIC Exhibitions Sdn Bhd, the Thai Spa Association and the Asia Pacific Spa & Wellness Promotion Council, with the support of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau.

THE BARAI was selected from a pool of 212 nominees that were judged by a panel of independent judges comprising spa personalities, travel writers and tour planners. In deciding the winners, the judges took into consideration both the “hardware” component of the spa, namely its ambience, design and equipment, and the “software” component – therapist skills and qualifications, treatment menus and service quality.

These latest awards will increase recognition of THE BARAI as a very special destination spa, not only helping it to gain a strong foothold in Thailand’s competitive spa industry, but
also promoting Hua Hin in the international market as a true luxury pampering destination and emphasising Thailand’s status as the spa capital of Asia.

Hyatt Hotels & Resorts was a big winner at the Festival overall, taking a total of five awards, including “Best Spa Group” for Hyatt Pure Spa.

“These awards are considered particularly valuable for THE BARAI as they enhance our reputation, bring even greater recognition and help increase awareness of the unique properties of this destination spa. They also strengthen THE BARAI’s positioning throughout Asia and emphasise how uniquely different and special THE BARAI is when compared with other spas in Asia.

In addition, the achievement of Hyatt Pure Spa being name ‘Best Spa Group’ guarantees that our clients, especially spa goers, enjoy a high level of standards that always exceeds guests’ satisfaction and delivers great spa experiences,” said Mr. Mikael Svensson, the hotel’s general manager, about the recent achievements.

THE BARAI provides eight exclusive residential spa suites and 18 exotic treatment rooms located on more than 4.5 acres (18,500 sq m) of serene beachfront land adjacent to Hyatt Regency Hua Hin.

Soar over the Li River In Southern China

June 9, 2009 on 1:29 pm | In Adventure Travel, Asia, China | Comments Off

World Traveler
Far East specialists Bamboo Travel has teamed up with an Australian hot air ballooning company to offer hour-long balloon flights from Yangshuo over the Li River in Southern China.

The peaceful flight follows the river as it meanders through inspirational scenery of lush paddy fields studded with limestone pinnacles covered in dense foliage, which until recently could only be viewed from the often-crowded fleet of tourist boats plying the river from nearby Guilin.

Yangshuo itself is a small town in the southern Chinese province of Guangxi, set in an area of exceptional beauty which has been the inspiration for many Chinese paintings and poetry.

Visitors to the area are also appealed by its laid back atmosphere, and the variety of activities available which include cycling tours, rock-climbing, caving, trekking and bamboo rafting, all of which offer a pleasant contrast to the sightseeing in other parts of China.

For a bird’s eye view of this mystical landscape Bamboo Travel’s 12 day “Mystical China” tour includes this once in a lifetime balloon trip.

This private guided tour visits Beijing, Xian and Guilin before an overnight stay in Guangxi’s famous rice terraces at Longsheng for the opportunity to trek along the Dragon’s Backbone and meet minority villagers.

The tour ends in Yangshuo for the balloon flight over the Li River and time for other activities in the surrounding countryside.

The tour costs from £1,995 per person based on two sharing which includes return BA flights, 9 nights’ accommodation in 4-star hotels, a private compartment on the overnight train from Beijing to Xian, comprehensive private sightseeing, a 60-minute balloon ride from Yangshuo, private airport transfers, daily breakfasts, 8 lunches and 2 dinners.
