World TravelerVoyages to Antiquity, the new destination cruise line formed by industry veteran Gerry Herrod, has issued its first brochure and revealed more details about the operation.

The brochure features 16 departures of nine itineraries to the “cradle of civilizations” in the Mediterranean. The cruises will be operated by the 380-passenger Aegean Odyssey, formerly Aegean I. The ship is undergoing an extensive renovation before operating its first cruise in May. Herrod also founded Orient Lines.

Cruises in 2010 include complimentary shore excursions in each port, open dining, wine or beer with dinner, shipboard gratuities and two specialty venues — the Terrace Café and Tapas on the Terrace.

Free air is offered from select gateways on the East Coast, and air add-ons from other gateways start at $99. The ship’s overall capacity is being reduced as 81 new suites are added; other accommodations include balcony and deluxe staterooms.

Concierge Class staterooms (categories A to G) include a welcome bottle of champagne, refrigerated mini-bar, complimentary bottled water, dressing gown and slippers, boutique bathroom amenities, a DVD selection, priority sightseeing boarding and concierge service.

All staterooms also have windows, flat-screen television, safe, hair dryer and luxury bedding. Also included are lecturers and special events such as a private evening in St. Mark’s in Venice and a cocktail reception at the Palazzo Gangi in Palermo, Sicily.

The onboard cuisine will be continental augmented by regional foods obtained during the voyage.

The 71-page brochure includes an abbreviated history of the ancient cultures in Rome, Egypt and Greece, along with the maritime history of the ancient world.

North American sales are being handled by Mitchell Schlesinger, the former sales executive for Orient Lines and Norwegian Cruise Line.
