Gunnison/Crested Butte Holidays at Thanksgiving

A snowy mountain backdrop, lots of good cheer and plenty of fun activities for all ages combine to create magical holiday moments in Gunnison-Crested Butte, Colo.
The season for winter sports kicks off just in time for Thanksgiving celebrations, with Crested Butte Nordic Center opening Nov. 21 and Crested Butte Mountain Resort ski area opening Nov. 25.
Examples of events include Fantasy of Fashion, an elegant evening of fashion and gifts, back by popular demand on Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m., a semi-formal event at the Fred R. Field Western Heritage Center.
The yuletide season continues in Gunnison with the 35th Annual Sugar Plum on Nov. 21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Festival Fred R. Field Western Heritage Center.
There are more than 75 booths, Christmas carols and more.
Gunnison will formally usher in the Christmas season with Night of Lights held downtown on Friday, Dec. 4, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
There is also Christmas caroling and a parade.
Crested Butte Mountain Theatre continues its tradition of presenting great holiday productions with “Miracle on 34th Street” at Crested Butte Center for the Arts.
The musical comedy will be performed Dec. 18 to 20, 22, 23, 26, 27, 29 to 31 and Jan. 1 to 2.
Rock on Ice returns to the ski base Dec. 18 to 21 as two carvers create larger-than-life-sized sculptures of animals, holiday characters and other iconic figures out of blocks of ice.
There will be daily ice carving demonstrations, with interactive sculptures perfect for family photos, and an ice sculpture garden in the outdoor courtyard at Mountaineer Square.
Skiers and boarders winding down the slopes with lights in hand at dusk during the Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade at Crested Butte Mountain Resort.
