Ghost towns and glaciers in America’s largest National Park
Covering over 13 million acres, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park has everything from an early 20th Century copper mining town to four major mountain ranges that include nine of the 16 highest peaks in the United States.
At the heart of the Park lies the National Historic Landmark town of Kennecott with its distinctive copper mill. Spend a morning touring the towering structure, followed by an afternoon of ice-hiking on the mountainous glacier that can be seen from almost anywhere in the town.
Then sample the mouth-watering cuisine and extensive wine list of the McCarthy Lodge in the partly restored “party” town of McCarthy, before bedding down for the night in Ma Johnson’s Historic Hotel (www.mccarthylodge.com). Hawaii – Halekulani Introduces The Orchid Suite
May 10, 2010 on 12:07 pm | In Beachbooker, Hawaiian Islands, Spa Resorts, Surfing Resorts, Tennis | Comments Off
As Part Of “The Premier Suites At Halekulani”
Halekulani, one of the world’s finest and most acclaimed luxury resorts, has introduced “The Orchid Suite at Halekulani”, a pioneering and transformative concept that will transcend the traditional hotel suite model, just as “The Vera Wang Suite at Halekulani” did when it debuted in 2005.
A residential ambiance that represents a confluence of a contemporary aesthetic and the casually elegant sensibility for which Halekulani has come to be renowned, The Orchid Suite at Halekulani, embodies the ethereal qualities of the property’s iconic Cattleya Orchid, and a spaciousness that is both airy and languid, as well as intimate and inspiring.
The Orchid Suite at Halekulani is an exemplification of Halekulani’s property-wide renewal initiative and one of the three iconic suites that comprise “The Premier Suites at Halekulani.”
Catering to the myriad lifestyles of the hotel’s international clientele, who keep coming back to Halekulani because of its uniquely gracious and individualized service,
The Premier Suites at Halekulani encompass the newly redesigned Royal Suite, the iconic Vera Wang Suite and the recently unveiled Orchid Suite, each of which has a distinct aesthetic and sensibility and individually tailored experiential amenity programs.
The Royal Suite is simple, classical and regal. The décor of this 4,066 square foot suite celebrates the various Pacific and Asian cultures that are a part of today’s Hawaiian culture. The 2,135 square foot Vera Wang Suite, personally designed by the suite’s namesake, exudes a casual elegance and sensuality. Vera Wang’s home, gift, bath and accessories collection are paired with rare furnishings from Hawaii, the Pacific and Asia to create a stylish and sophisticated respite.
The Orchid Suite embodies three of Halekulani’s elemental values: Wellness (mind, body and spirit), Connoisseur (fine cuisine) and Masterworks (the arts). Inspired by the calming and enveloping Pacific Ocean, The Orchid Suite will feature an exclusive Sea of Life Wellness Program designed by award-winning SpaHalekulani featuring treatments and therapies inspired by renewing properties of the sea.
For epicurean connoisseurs, The Orchid Suite will feature a full-service Sub-Zero Wolf kitchen with interactive cooking experiences by Halekulani Chefs, daily market deliveries and a select La Mer menu of the finest in European cuisine.
To perpetuate the Masterworks brand element, Halekulani will unveil an exciting new partnership in the near future as well as the Art in Motion luxury automobile program.
“The Orchid Suite, as part of The Premier Suites at Halekulani, embodies the cultural and gracious personal service legacy that is the personification of Halekulani,” said Peter Shaindlin, Chief Operating Officer of Halekulani Corporation.
“Based upon the unprecedented success of the Vera Wang Suite, we saw an opportunity and a need to create a collection of iconic suites for our guests who want the best and will accept nothing less.
Each of the three suites which comprise The Premier Suites at Halekulani offer distinctly different ambiances and experiential amenities that cater to the individual lifestyles of our international clientele.”
Guests of the 2,365 square foot Orchid Suite will experience superlative design elements, carefully orchestrated to provide privacy while maintaining the exceptional standards and experiences for which Halekulani has come to be known.
Set apart from the historic Main Building, the Orchid Suite will be situated facing the Pacific Ocean with doors opening onto a private lawn with panoramic views of Waikiki Beach.
The interiors have been artfully designed in calming tones so as not to compete with the dramatic and vibrant Hawaiian views.
The master suite will afford guests with a spectacular view of Diamond Head while the en-suite master bath equipped with steam shower and deep steeping tub, will offer private views of the garden.
The living room was designed to resemble a luxurious beach cottage, an homage to the original days of Halekulani, with indoor/outdoor alfresco dining and a spacious lanai, idyllic for day or evening lounging. The entertainment room will also serve as a private study or family room.
The Premier Suites at Halekulani, including the Orchid Suite, will offer guests a new and extraordinary amenity program called “ART IN MOTION.” Guests of the three luxury suites will be offered keys to a collection of unparalleled exotic automobiles, once again redefining international hospitality standards. The extraordinary fleet features a brand new Maserati GranTurismo and Bentley Continental GTC. Guests may experience these cars first hand or with a personal driver, all complimentary with a stay in one of the Premier Suites at Halekulani.
Continuing Halekulani’s tradition of gracious hospitality and personalized service, all suites in the Premier Collection will feature the following complimentary services: Butler Service, Customized Culinary Programs, Personal Concierge and VIP privileges with the hotel’s “For You Everything, Program” offering complimentary access to the Honolulu Symphony, Honolulu Academy of Arts, Bishop Museum, Iolani Palace, Contemporary Museum of Arts Honolulu and the Shang-Ri La Estate, among others.

The Bulldog Makes Way For The Bed And Breakfast Club
May 10, 2010 on 11:58 am | In Beachbooker, Cabinweb, Hotels, Ireland, London, Scotland, United Kingdom, Wales | Comments Off
Savvy travellers have known The Bulldog Club for over 20 years and now, with expansion plans in place, the time has come for the company to change its name and refresh its image. So, after many years loyal service, the bulldog retires to make way for The Bed and Breakfast Club.
In spite of its new name, it’s very much business as usual. The Bed and Breakfast Club has a respected brand, and high quality homes in its portfolio.
Its principle remains the same: to offer upmarket bed and breakfast accommodation in exceptional private homes in London and the UK via a first-class booking service.
It has also made a few other changes, which include expanding its team, improving its website and enhancing its marketing efforts.
Its properties are popular with tourists and business travellers alike. Homes are in central locations at affordable prices.
For business travellers and cost-conscious companies, The Bed and Breakfast Club provides accommodation that is a home away from home for those who prefer intimate charm to an impersonal hotel. All properties are personally inspected to ensure the highest level of accommodation.
Emma Crane-Robinson, Managing Director, said: “Our hand-picked, privately owned homes each have a character of their own and promise sumptuous surroundings. We believe that bed and breakfasts reflect the culture of the city, provide a personal touch and make a refreshing change from the uniformity of hotels.”
Family Fortunes In Palm Springs
May 10, 2010 on 11:55 am | In California, Golf Resorts, Los Angeles, San Diego, Spa Resorts, Sports Travel, Tennis | Comments Off
“Are we nearly there yet?” Family holidays can often be stressful, with restless children, tired parents and everybody wanting to do different things.
So, why not take the hassle out of the holiday and choose a destination with something for everyone? Palm Springs is the hostess with the mostest when it comes to offering the perfect escape for all the family.
Adults and kids alike will delight in the lush scenery of Palm Springs’ surrounding area, from hiking in the verdant Indian Canyons or picnicking in the Joshua Tree National Park, to exploring the fascinating landscape of the San Andreas fault line in a jeep safari.
Soar skywards to panoramic views in the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, leaving the desert floor behind and ascend to an undisturbed wilderness, high in the mountains. Feel the temperature drop as you and the family play it ‘cool’ (er) in Palm Springs.
The Living Desert is a great way for all the family to find out about the animals that live in the desert habitat.
See them playing, eating breakfast, stretching and prowling; watch birds of prey fanning out their huge wings in the sun; see the tortoises and lizards emerge into the sun; warthogs and javelinas and meerkats all appear during the day and then by late afternoon watch the cheetahs climb to the top of their ridge and majestically watch the sun set, before taking your own little ‘monkeys’ home to bed.
For families keen to make a splash during their holiday, a trip to Knott’s Soak City is a must!
A 21-acre oasis, sporting a 1950s Southern California beach theme, the water park boasts 22 water rides and attractions, including a wave pool and lazy river.
For those in search of adrenaline, Dare Devil Tower features side-by-side speed slides that take intrepid guests on a thrilling 7-story descent, whilst Pacific Spin is a multi-person raft ride that drops riders 75-feet into a six-story funnel!
Younger adventurers and the faint of heart are well-catered for too, as Gremmie Lagoon offers pint-sized water slides and a splash pool.
Twenty poolside cabanas are also available for rental, for those who would rather stay dry.
Alternatively, the Palm Springs Air Museum, the Palm Springs Art Museum, Villagefest, and a whole host of other attractions are ideal for families seeking something a little different from their trip.
The Palm Springs ‘Walk of Stars’ on Palm Canyon Drive is a fun way for mums and dads to spot their favourite stars with the kids, from traditional Hollywood stars such as Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, to more unusual additions such as Cheeta the Chimpanzee. Similarly, families can follow in the footprints of the celebrities with a tour of the homes of the stars, taking in the former residences of the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Kurt Douglas and the home that Elvis Presley honeymooned in.
Versatile accommodation options abound in Palm Springs, from traditional hotels and resorts to vacation rentals – ideal for families seeking self-catering options and a more flexible space.
However, for real star quality, celebrity homes are also available to rent.
The kids will have stars in their eyes when they can tell their friends that they holidayed at Sinatra’s House… or the house that featured in James Bond’s Diamonds are Forever? Now, that’s just too cool for school!
