my Travel Cash Multi-Currency Prepaid Mastercard
September 30, 2010 on 6:56 pm | In Ireland, London, Scotland, United Kingdom, Wales | Comments OffThe Perfect Accessory For Gap Year Travellers
With the next wave of gap year travellers planning their trip abroad, picking the right travel money product is key to making hard earned savings go further.
The new my Travel Cash Multi-Currency card prepaid MasterCard (www.mytravelcash.com ) is a great alternative to carrying cash or using UK debit or credit cards abroad. Additionally it is free to obtain, with a minimum load of £10, and carries no monthly or dormancy fee.
Much like pay-as-you-go mobile phones, the card is preloaded with Pounds Sterling and can then be used to make purchases or withdraw cash in any currency wherever the MasterCard Acceptance Mark is displayed, just like a debit or credit card. Transactions abroad with the my Travel Cash Multi-Currency card are free and all currency is converted at a favourable exchange rate fee of 1.5%, compared to the 2.75% charged by many UK debit and credit cardsi.
ATM withdrawal fees are also capped at £1, plus the 1.5% foreign exchange fee, unlike UK debit cards which often charge an ATM withdrawal fee of 2%, although this is usually capped at £4.50-£5, plus a 2.75% foreign exchange fee.
This means travellers can save up to £4 on the cost of a single ATM withdrawal abroad without even considering the foreign exchange savings, the equivalent of two nights accommodation in many backpacker locations such as India or Thailand.
Myles Stephenson from my Travel Cash explained “With gap year costs running into the thousands, selecting the right travel money product is vital. For example, on a six month gap year trip you could save in excess of £400 by using a my Travel Cash Multi-Currency cardii.
This could easily equate to the cost of a couple of weeks of travelling.
“In addition, as you can only spend what has been loaded onto the card, it is easier for travellers to monitor their budget and avoid overdrafts.
Funds can easily be added to the card online, helping travellers set and stick to a budget for each location, or top up their credit if required.
Friends and family can also have peace of mind that in the case of an emergency new funds can be available on the card within two hours when a debit card is used for payment.
So parents can easily, and quickly, transfer money to their children wherever they are in the world!”
The card can be used worldwide, and as it is powered by MasterCard travellers can access their funds across the world through MasterCard’s network of over 1.5 million ATMs and 30 million merchants.
As the cards are Chip & PIN protected, they provide reassuring security against theft or loss. Cardholders can cancel their card 24 hours a day, by phone, via the website or simply texting.
To order a my Travel Cash Multi-Currency MasterCard prepaid card simply go to www.mytravelcash.com and complete the online form. Full details of the fees associated with this card are available online.

Raw Food Detox Experience In Mallorca
September 30, 2010 on 6:54 pm | In Beachbooker, Spa Resorts, Spain | Comments Off
A Detox program based on the historic wisdom of the Father of Medicine – Hippocrates – “Let Food Be Thy Medicine.”
The Hippocrates Health Institute in Florida, USA, is considered the world’s leading health spa and is run by doctors and scientists. The teachings are based on “live food”, the raw food diet. The Hippocrates Institute’s philosophy is founded on the belief that a pure enzyme-rich diet, complemented by positive thinking and non-invasive therapies, are essential elements on the path to optimum health.
Spa in Spain is proud to announce that they have created, in collaboration with Beverley Pugh, the first Hippocrates Health Educator in Spain, a unique Detox retreat in Mallorca based on the principles of the Hippocrates Health method of living food.
What is raw food?
Raw living food is food that has not been cooked over 115ºF so consequently it is still raw, eg in its natural state. Any temperature above this one officially ‘cooks’ the food killing all the enzymes. The enzymes are what makes the food alive and are necessary in order to digest the food correctly.
What is also missing from cooked food is oxygen, a substantial amount of vitamins, minerals and water, important nutrients in order to build and maintain a strong and healthy body.
Raw food is some times also called ‘living food’ because it has not been killed or destroyed by heat. The word living food specially refers to the foods that are still growing when consumed, such as germinated seeds and sprouts, germinated legumes, wild green herbs, wheat grass, algae and any foods that are taken from the earth, plant or tree. Raw living food, does not include, bread cereals, rice, pasta or any refined or processed products, canned, frozen, or micro waved.
“We are what we eat,” says Beverley Pugh and continues “What we put into our bodies has never been so important.
“We need to be eating more live food, food that is full of nutrients and vitamins which will give our body life and make our bodies strong. I’ve never had so much energy and I’m never ill. The raw food diet is being used to cure serious illnesses and also help people lose weight and cleanse their bodies¨.
What is Detox?
Every day we are exposed to external toxins from our environment and internal toxins produced as the by product of our digestive and metabolic processes. Fortunately, our bodies are generally good at filtering out the bad stuff before it gets to us.
But when the body is exposed to higher than average toxins, perhaps because of a stressful or not so healthy lifestyle, it would be good to give the body some support by detoxifying and cleansing the body from the inside from time to time.
A Detox program can support the body in its natural function of detoxification, enabling it to cope better with the daily stresses of modern life and establishing a higher level of health.
A Detox cure works in two ways. On the one hand, you stop eating and drinking anything that reduces the efficiency of the cleansing process, this can mean anything from no alcohol to no sugar. At the other hand you increase the intake of antioxidant food and liquids that help the body get rid of toxins.
Why is a raw food Detox cure so effective?
A raw food diet is perfectly effective to detoxify the body. The fresh vegetable sprout juices and wheatgrass are full of chlorophyll which is deeply effective in detoxing the body. Chlorophyll neutralizes toxins in the body, helps purify the liver and improves blood sugar problems.
Wheatgrass and vegetable sprout juices are a superior detoxification agent compared to carrot and other fruit and vegetable juices. Dr Earp Thomas of the Hippocrates Health Institute, says that 15 pounds of wheatgrass is the equivalent of 350 pounds of carrots, lettuce, celery, and so forth.
Living Raw Food Detox Experience in Mallorca
Beverley Pugh is the first one of only two Hippocrates Health Educators in Spain, but she is also a Reiki master, a rebirther, a reflexologist, a certified Alissa Cohen Living Foods chef, a Living Light Institute associated chef, an instructor in “living foods” and lifestyle coach who has trained all over the world.
In collaboration with SIS Spa In Spain, she now channeled all she has learnt and experienced into a one week retreat in which she teaches people how to invest in their lives and a healthy future.
This raw food and juice program combined with yoga, hiking and massage ensures that the guest leaves the retreat feeling more energetic and also with a sensation of calmness and a new outlook on life!
SIS Spa In Spain organizes one retreat every month, starting from October 2010. The groups are small from 4 up to a maximum of 10 persons, which makes it personal and not too crowded.

The Titanic Voyage 100 Years On
September 30, 2010 on 6:53 pm | In Adventure Travel, Cruise Boats, France, Ireland, London, Paris, United Kingdom | Comments Off
Hundreds book to travel on recreation of the Titanic voyage 100 years on
A cruise to mark the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic in April 2012 has almost sold out 20 months before its departure date.
Hundreds of people from 24 different countries have booked to travel on the Balmoral, due to set sail from Southampton, England on 8 April 2012 and retrace the liner’s original route.
Relatives of those who lost their lives on the great ship, authors, historians and people who are just fascinated by the Titanic story have already booked their place in history.
The first cruise ever to recreate the fateful voyage has attracted bookings from places including Australia, Canada, the Caribbean, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, South America and the USA.
Jane Allen, from Devon, said: “We’ve booked this once in a lifetime event as we wish to commemorate our relative, Mr Thomas Pears, who died on the Titanic and his story has been a big part of our lives. His widow Edith survived in Lifeboat 8.”
Julie Cox, from Louisiana, USA said: “My great Grandfather had tickets for the Titanic but did not go so the Titanic has been a lifelong interest to me and my family.”
The Balmoral Cruise Liner is operated by Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, whose parent company Harland and Wolff built the Titanic in Belfast. It has been chartered for the event by ABTA-bonded Miles Morgan Travel, which specialises in cruise and luxury holidays.
A line up of ten specialist lectures are now booked for the voyage including author Arthur Cropley, the great-nephew of Charles Herber Lightoller, the 2nd Officer of the Titanic and Senan Molony, political editor of the Irish Daily Mail and author of several respected books about the disaster.
Other speakers include Philip Littlejohn, grandson of Titanic survivor Alexander James Littlejohn and the only Titanic relative to have made the dive to the wreck site. “I am delighted to be part of the cruise to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the maiden voyage of the Titanic.
“I’m sure my grandfather, a 1st Class Steward on RMS Titanic, would be proud to know his story will be shared with the passengers on the Balmoral. It will be an emotional moment when we are over the wreck site, where I dived in 2001, and where my grandfather left Titanic rowing Lifeboat 13.”
Miles Morgan, managing director of the Titanic Memorial Cruise, said:
“The 100th anniversary is such a significant milestone in the history of the Titanic, it has really captured the imagination of people all over the world.
“We’ve heard stories from guests who are having dresses created by top designers especially for the event and requests from musicians who want to audition to be part of the famous string quartet.”
Organisers of the cruise are ensuring that the food on board will be based on the dishes served in April 1912 and the music and entertainment will reflect the era.
The last remaining twin cabins are available from £3,350 per person and go up to £5,995 for a superior suite for the 12-night cruise including flights back to the UK from New York.
The ship will sail with 1,309 paying passengers, exactly the same number that sailed on the Titanic.
For more information about the cruise visit www.titanicmemorialcruise.co.uk or to book call 01934 525584.
WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre
September 30, 2010 on 6:53 pm | In London, Outdoors, Scotland, United Kingdom, Wales | Comments OffThis Autumn Witness One Of Nature’s Spectacles Without The Threat Of A Prowling Polar Bear!
This autumn, one of the UK’s great wildlife spectacles and conservation success stories – the return flight of 27,000 barnacle geese – will thrill visitors to WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, but this year there is another angle to this incredible story.
A Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) scientist has confirmed that there is a new threat to the recovering population of barnacle geese – polar bears! WWT’s Brian Morrell recently returned from a research expedition to Svalbard in Norway and reported that polar bears stranded on land in the summer months are unable to find seals so are turning to the breeding barnacle goose populations as they roam the coastline looking for food.
WWT’s Brian Morrell, who is based at WWT Caerlaverock on the Solway Firth where the entire population of Svalbard barnacle geese spend the winter, said:
“It was heartbreaking to see the geese lose their eggs after all that time and effort, they just stood there after the bear had left looking forlornly at the nest for up to half an hour before flying off to feed.
“It was a real privilege to visit the birds on their Arctic breeding grounds and I’m looking forward to seeing their return to WWT Caerlaverock this autumn, but it will be with some sadness because we can’t expect many fledglings in the flocks.
“I’d urge everyone to visit WWT Caerlaverock this autumn.
“Not only you can you observe the great spectacle of the huge flocks of geese over the salt marshes but you will be directly supporting WWT’s conservation work and helping us understand the impact of these changes on the barnacle goose population – without the threat of a prowling polar bear!”
Visitors to WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre can enjoy the awe inspiring sight of thousands of barnacle geese feeding on the Solway Firth from the superb vantage point of the centre’s numerous observatories, towers and hides. In 2009, whilst filming for BBC Autumnwatch presenter Simon King said “I can’t recommend a visit to Caerlaverock strongly enough, it really is spectacular.”
In the late 1940s, fewer than 300 Svalbard geese survived in the wild. Since then, international efforts to protect their breeding and feeding sites on the Scotland/Svalbard flyway have seen numbers rise to almost 30,000 and the species’ conservation status upgraded from red to amber. WWT have been instrumental in gathering information about these birds to help protect them and in doing so uncovered the mystery of where the Svalbard barnacle geese disappear to on their spring migration by tracking the birds with satellite transmitters.
All year round there is plenty to see at WWT Caerlaverock, you can get close to hundreds of Icelandic whooper swans at one of the wild swan feeds in the winter or spot the badgers at a stars and stripes evening in the summer months. Caerlaverock is also home to Britain’s rarest amphibian, the natterjack toad as well what may be the oldest living animal species on earth, the tadpole shrimp. You can watch osprey fish the Solway and see live pictures from their nest via CCTV on the big screen at the centre.
If you’re planning a holiday, WWT Caerlaverock offers a unique stay; the warm and comfortable farmhouse at Eastpark is situated at the very heart of this famous reserve and commands superb views from its own observation tower across this and the adjacent National Nature Reserve. Wild whooper swans roost just below the bedroom windows in the winter and a mile of screened approaches link the house to hides, observatories and towers from which the Solway’s 27,000 barnacle geese and a wide variety of other wildlife can be secretly observed.
