Heart’s Red Velvet Car Tour off ramps at the Las Vegas Hilton

Heart’s Red Velvet Car Tour made an off ramp exit to the Las Vegas Hilton recently, and the siren sisters – Nan and Ann Wilson – not only broke into song from their 34 year catalog of hits, but their band turned the old and famous stage into a Rockola marathon to a sold out theater.

Heart’s entourage of artistes is promoting their first album in years and only the second album in about 15 years, with the title track the same entitlement as the album, “Red Velvet Car.” I am sure hot rodders will soon be adding the album cover’s emblemized red heart wrapped in grill chrome to their coupes soon, too.

Ann explains the new album’s title: “We write many songs about relationships, and one of the deepest relationship is friendship. A friend is someone that gets up at four in the morning to pick your ass up when no one else will. That’s a Red Velvet Car friendship.”

During the 1970s disco era Nancy and Ann came out full throttle with hit after hit of solid granite rock, and they performed most of them this evening, including “Barracuda”, “Even it Up”, “What About Love”, “Heartless”, “Straight On For You”, and the gentler “Dog and Butterfly”.

While the band wiped off the perspiration and Ann gave her trademark voice a brief rest, the spotlights melted over golden-hair Nan on acoustic guitar with a lead in to the album’s first hit, “Hey You,” which debuted at #10 on the Bill Board charts.

I must say the road worthy band was studio tight all the way through the two hour set. The concert was sort of a reprise of all their hits as an introduction for the numerous younger fans in the audience to experience the dynamic, dramatic and strength of voice of the Seattle sister team; yes Ann and Nan are true sisters, and Nan says they are the best of friends, and I lay odds they are Red Velvet Car friends.
