Heart’s Red Velvet Car Tour off ramps at the Las Vegas Hilton
November 21, 2010 on 6:03 pm | In Gaming Resorts, Las Vegas, Webbandstand | Comments Off
Heart’s Red Velvet Car Tour made an off ramp exit to the Las Vegas Hilton recently, and the siren sisters – Nan and Ann Wilson – not only broke into song from their 34 year catalog of hits, but their band turned the old and famous stage into a Rockola marathon to a sold out theater.
Heart’s entourage of artistes is promoting their first album in years and only the second album in about 15 years, with the title track the same entitlement as the album, “Red Velvet Car.” I am sure hot rodders will soon be adding the album cover’s emblemized red heart wrapped in grill chrome to their coupes soon, too.
Ann explains the new album’s title: “We write many songs about relationships, and one of the deepest relationship is friendship. A friend is someone that gets up at four in the morning to pick your ass up when no one else will. That’s a Red Velvet Car friendship.”
During the 1970s disco era Nancy and Ann came out full throttle with hit after hit of solid granite rock, and they performed most of them this evening, including “Barracuda”, “Even it Up”, “What About Love”, “Heartless”, “Straight On For You”, and the gentler “Dog and Butterfly”.
While the band wiped off the perspiration and Ann gave her trademark voice a brief rest, the spotlights melted over golden-hair Nan on acoustic guitar with a lead in to the album’s first hit, “Hey You,” which debuted at #10 on the Bill Board charts.
I must say the road worthy band was studio tight all the way through the two hour set. The concert was sort of a reprise of all their hits as an introduction for the numerous younger fans in the audience to experience the dynamic, dramatic and strength of voice of the Seattle sister team; yes Ann and Nan are true sisters, and Nan says they are the best of friends, and I lay odds they are Red Velvet Car friends.

The venerable Las Vegas show room theater has one of the most outstanding sound systems in town, Click album cover to purchase the Red Velvet Car album.

Titan HiTours Cruise & Tour Programme For 2011
November 21, 2010 on 11:44 am | In Adventure Travel, Africa, Asia, Australia, Canada, Caribbean, Central America, Cruise Boats, Europe, London, Mexico, Middle East, Pacific Islands, South America, United Kingdom, USA | Comments OffTitan HiTours (0800 988 5858, www.titanhitours.co.uk ), the escorted tours specialist, has unveiled its brand new Cruise & Tour brochure for 2011.
The programme encompasses an extensive selection of ocean cruises combined with imaginative, land-based touring packages that takes in every possible point of the compass from Alaska to Antarctica.
With highlights ranging from the splendour of a stylish cruise around the British Isles on the new Queen Elizabeth to a passage through the Panama Canal – as well as a wide choice of no-fly cruises with direct departures from UK seaports – the Cruise & Tour programme presents an unrivalled choice of exciting holidays afloat combined with the quality, high standards and value for money for which Titan HiTours is renowned.
A particular high point of the Cruise Collection is the introduction of no less than 14 brand new itineraries that have been added to the brochure for the first time.
The most accessible of these is the 17-day Rocky Mountaineer and Deluxe Alaskan Voyage, which has a total of 14 possible departure dates between May and September, 2011.
The journey begins with an overland adventure through the Rocky Mountains via scenic Lake Louise and Jasper National Park, before boarding the Rocky Mountaineer train service through the pristine Canadian wilderness to the vibrant and cosmopolitan city of Vancouver.
From here, the journey continues aboard the deluxe MS Zuiderdam along the Alaskan seaboard, with plenty of opportunities to spot whales, eagles and glaciers along the way during the seven-night voyage.
This holiday costs from £2,845 per person to include flights, transfers, some meals (full-board on the cruise), sightseeing tours as detailed in the itinerary, port taxes and the VIP Home Departure Service.
The popular VIP Home Departure Service, which collects customers from – and returns them to – their own front door was previously only available to clients based in mainland England and Wales but has now been extended to cover mainland Scotland,
The Channel Islands and Northern Ireland and allows for every client to be picked up from their home address, transferred to their departure point and returned to their own front door at the end of their holiday at no extra cost.
With those in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Channel Island entitled to a home pick-up and door-to-door transfer to their nearest regional airport, plus free domestic flights to the London airports to connect with any international departure (or free onward connections to the major seaports for clients taking an ex-UK cruise).
Another new addition with plenty of possible departure dates (11 in total) is the 8-day Dubrovnik & the Dalmatian Islands itinerary, which incorporates a brief stay in this fabled city (known romantically as the Pearl of the Adriatic) with a voyage along the stunningly beautiful Dalmatian coastline.
A particular highlight of this holiday is the ship’s small size; the MV Adriatic Queen only carries a maximum of 25 guests on each sailing, with the ship being chartered exclusively for Titan HiTours customers.
This ensures an intimate and relaxed onboard ambiance, allowing passengers to savour the natural beauty and rich history of the coastline and its many islands in the uncrowded company of like-minded travellers.
The holiday costs from £995 per person, to include flights, transfers, half-board accommodation, sightseeing tours as detailed in the itinerary, port taxes and the VIP Home Departure Service.
Perhaps one of the most exciting experiences of any voyage will be the journey between two oceans along The Awe-Inspiring Panama Canal, which is another new addition to the 2011 brochure. Starting with a brief stay in Miami’s iconic South Beach, the cruise ship Coral Princess departs from nearby Fort Lauderdale and continues through the Caribbean Sea to Cartagena and onwards for a daytime transit through the Panama Canal. Emerging in the Pacific Ocean, the adventure continues along the Mexican coastline until finally ending in Los Angeles.
There are a total of eight departure dates for this cruise, with prices starting at £2,395 per person, to include flights, transfers, most meals (full-board on the cruise), sight-seeing tours as detailed in the itinerary, port taxes and the VIP Home Departure Service.
Those looking to avoid the cost and hassle of jetting away on their holidays might prefer the brochure’s wide selection of no-fly cruises, which involve direct departures from the UK’s major seaports. There are a total of five brand new no-fly cruise itineraries in the brochure, of which the closest to home is the 11-day Queen Elizabeth Maiden Around the British Isles cruise, which has to be booked by 30 November 2010 for a departure from Southampton on 2 September 2011.
Circumnavigating the British mainland aboard Cunard’s latest ship with stops along the way include Edinburgh, Invergordon, Glasgow, Liverpool, Dublin, Cork and St Peter Port with a full programme of excursions being available at each port of call. Prices start from £1,645 per person for a standard inside stateroom and include 10 nights full-board accommodation, all port taxes and the VIP Home Departure Service.
Also priced from £1,095 per person is the 9-day Fjordland Adventure cruise, which departs from Dover on 1 July, 2011 for a crossing of the North Sea and exploration of Norway’s stunning coastal fjords. The first port of call is the historic town of Stavanger before the ship continues in its discovery of the majestic and seemingly pristine fjords.
Highlights include an optional excursion aboard the Flam railway, which climbs nearly 3,000 feet to the village of Myrdal via mountain tunnels and thundering waterfalls.
The price includes full-board accommodation on the Black Watch, an excursion in Stavanger, all port taxes and the VIP Home Departure Service.
Customers in need of a sunshine fix after the long, cold winter might opt for one of two cruises to Iberian destinations, the first of which is the 13-day Canary Islands Easter Cruise which departs from Southampton on 15 April, 2011 (from £1,195 per person). Taking in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon and the sunshine islands of Lanzarote, Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Madeira, this leisurely cruise also includes five full days at sea, giving guests plenty of time to relax and take advantage of the ship’s many facilities. This is closely followed by the 11-day Springtime Iberian Sunshine itinerary (from £995 per person), which departs Southampton over the Easter weekend on 23 April with stops in Spain, Portugal, Morocco and Gibraltar.
Both prices include full-board accommodation, all port taxes and the VIP Home Departure Service.

Erna Low – Trust The Experts To The Alps Since 1932
November 21, 2010 on 11:28 am | In France, London, Paris, Rail Tours, Road Trips, Skiing Snowboarding, Switzerland, United Kingdom | Comments OffVOLCANIC ASH DASH – BOOKINGS HOT UP
Erna Low have received a welcome and very positive reaction to their volcano message this winter, as thousands of skiers had their Easter holidays thrown into turmoil in April, following the eruption of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull.
With this in mind, the focus this season is on eliminating the risks and avoiding the pitfalls of air travel as much as possible. As Joanna Yellowlees-Bound, CEO of Erna Low, comments
“Booking a holiday with a bonded tour operator will guarantee your cash is refunded if your flight is cancelled or withdrawn, but it won’t get you to your holiday destination when you had planned to travel. Ski self-drive is Erna Low’s signature USP.
“It is what we do best – and this season we know the only way guests can ensure they reach the slopes (and home again) is to drive there by car.”
This has been greeted warmly by Erna Low clients, who see the value of self-drive holidays.
In fact, bookings are already 5% up on this time last year, which highlights the confidence shown in this reassurance guarantee. Not only does a self-drive holiday ensure no disruption from volcanic activity or airport stress, skiers who drive to their destination can also make huge savings.
The additional convenience of being able to bring home comforts, personal ski equipment and distractions for young children is enhanced by the ease and comfort of a free FlexiPlus upgrade provided by Erna Low when taking a Eurotunnel crossing.
Alternatively, Erna Low deducts £70 off all P&O Dover – Calais bookings, offering a best value solution for all guests.
Furthermore, the Ski Club of Great Britain’s recent Snowsports Analysis for the 2009/10 season detailed that self drive holidays have increased by 2% and train travel to the mountains by 1%, which further highlights the benefits of booking with Erna Low.
With 40 years of specialising in self-drive holidays for the independent traveller, Erna Low has a vast range of properties and locations available this season – covering the best resorts in the French Alps.
Ski-drive packages with Erna Low start at JUST £54 per person for seven night ski holiday for a week.
Based on 6 people sharing a two bedroom apartment for 7 nights at Les Chalets des Ecourts http://www.ernalow.co.uk/france/les-sybelles/st-jean-darves/les-chalets-des-ecourts
in St Jean d’Arves, self-catering basis, includes return Eurotunnel crossings with FlexiPlus upgrade.
LET THE TRAIN TAKE THE STRAIN
More skiers than ever before will be able to head to the slopes by rail this winter, with the launch of a range of rail-inclusive packages to a wide number of ski resorts across France featured by Erna Low.
New low-carbon rail journeys have been created for the coming winter sports season in a landmark joint venture between 16 tour operators, of which Erna Low is one,
Rail Europe and Eurostar, brought together by the founders of new ski rail website www.snowcarbon.co.uk
The journeys are made on Eurostar to Paris or Lille and onward on either the TGV (for daytime travel) or Corail Lunea sleeper trains (overnight) and skiers stand to benefit greatly over booking rail journeys independently:
* Lower price of rail travel
* Travel can be booked for dates until season end (as opposed to usual 90 days advance booking)
* Prices of fares are fixed
* Travel is fully bonded and protected
* Return transfers from station to resort are included
Resorts available with Erna Low include Chamonix, St Gervais, Montgenèvre, Val D’Isère, Sainte Foy, La Rosière, La Plagne, Champagny en Vanoise, Val Thorens, Les Menuires and Serre Chevalier in France. These are in addition to Les Arcs, Tignes, Meribel and Courchevel, also all served direct by the Eurostar Direct Ski Train.
The rail-based holidays, available since 11 October 2010, include transfers from station to resort and the option of a taxi transfer when changing terminals in Paris.
The cost of the rail component of the travel, from London St Pancras to the Alps, will be between £120 and £250 return for daytime travel and between £160 and £250 for overnight journeys (with a place in a six-berth couchette).
Daniel Elkan, co-founder of Snow Carbon, explained: ‘Rail travel means a significant reduction in carbon emissions compared to flying. It gives skiers a more relaxing and enjoyable journey. Door-to-door, if you are travelling from the South East, it takes very little longer than flying. By booking through Erna Low, consumers have the reassurance of financial protection for their holiday.’

Jane Bolton, Managing Director of Erna Low comments: “We wanted to offer our guests a better value package than ever before this winter season, enabling skiers to instantly see the great value reflected in our deals.
