Superbreak Book of the Dead Package

November 30, 2010 on 3:54 pm | In London, Performing Arts, United Kingdom, Webbandstand | Comments Off

Superbreak has launched a range of hotel packages with tickets to the Book of the Dead Exhibition.

Superbreak, the short break tour operator, has launched a range of hotel and ticket packages for the Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead exhibition ahead of its opening at the British Museum in November.

The British Museum’s newest exhibition follows the journey of the ancient Egyptians from death to the afterlife using digital media to interactively interpret the Book of the Dead.

The York-based tour operator has secured a number of timed afternoon entry tickets to the exhibition and has partnered with over 250 central London hotels to offer affordable breaks whatever the budget. What helps to set the hotel and ticket packages apart from its competition is the wealth of additional extras, which can be bolted-on to the packages themselves, including return rail travel and sightseeing tickets.

Over the past few years, event packages have soared in popularity as Superbreak continue to acquire ticket allocation for a diverse range of events from record-breaking cultural events such as Tutankhamun to the latest pop and rock acts at the O2 Arena.

Last year, over 10,000 passengers travelled with Superbreak on an event break to London and the tour operator continues to maintain strong relationships with many of the venues to ensure they can provide customers with the latest range of event tickets.

Attending the preview of the exhibition Ray Jones, product development director at Superbreak, commented:

“The new exhibition in the stunning Reading Room of the British Museum gives us a real insight into the world of the Egyptians and meticulous planning that went into the journey into the afterlife.

After the success of Tutankhamun, I’m confident that this exhibition will prove to be a huge hit with both adults and children alike.”

Grandmaster Flash at the Palms Casino Resort on New Year’s Eve

November 30, 2010 on 9:41 am | In Gaming Resorts, Hotels, Las Vegas, Webbandstand | Comments Off

Chance to see the legendary DJ at the intimate Island Bar without lines or cover

LAS VEGAS – The Palms Casino Resort keeps the party going whether guests are enjoying the nightlife scene, catching a live show or dining in one of the resort’s hip restaurants, but this New Year’s Eve the Palms is taking it to a higher level.

The legendary Grandmaster Flash will be spinning New Year’s Eve at the Island Bar in the heart of the Palms starting at 10 p.m. and going well into the New Year. No cover or long lines, just great entertainment that will tie together the festive vibe throughout the hotel.

More announcements will be made soon regarding live entertainment and other special plans for New Year’s Eve bashes throughout the property. Partygoers must be 21 years of age or older.

The party doesn’t stop on New Year’s Day; join Flash Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011 as he celebrates his birthday at Rain Nightclub.

About DJ Grandmaster Flash:

DJ Grandmaster Flash is known as one of hip-hop’s founding fathers, experimenting with his father’s vinyl when he was just an adolescent.

The career of DJ Grandmaster Flash began in the Bronx with neighborhood block parties that essentially were the start of hip-hop.

He was the first DJ to physically lay his hands on the vinyl and manipulate it in a backward, forward or counterclockwise motion, when most DJs simply handled the record by the edges, put down the tone arm and let it play.

By the end of the ’70s, Flash had started another trend that became a hallmark of hip-hop: emcees asked to rap over his beats.

Before long, he started his own group, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.

Their reputation grew around the way the group traded off and blended their lyrics with Flash’s unrivaled skills as a DJ and his acrobatic performances—spinning and cutting vinyl with his fingers, toes, elbows and any object at hand. Punk and new wave fans were introduced to Flash through Blondie, who immortalized him in their hit, “Rapture.”

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five became the first hip-hop group ever inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.

Flash is also the only hip-hop DJ to ever receive that honor. On top of his induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Flash has been the recipient of many awards, including VH1 Hip Hop Honors,

The Icon Award from BET in honor of his contribution to hip-hop as a DJ, The Lifetime Achievement Award from the RIAA and Bill Gates’ Vanguard Award.

LAS VEGAS – The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort will rock right into 2011 with a special New Year’s Eve performance by rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars. The group will ring in the New Year on Friday, December 31 with a 9 p.m. performance.

This will be the band’s triumphant return after a sold out show earlier this year and since bringing home a Video Music Award for Best Rock Video.

With album sales reaching 3.5 million worldwide, Thirty Seconds to Mars continues to bring fans the modern rock they’ve been putting out for nearly a decade.

The band was formed by Jared and Shannon Leto in 1998 and the group’s first self-titled album was released in 2002, starting a legion of fans who accepted the band’s forward thinking sound. The multi-platinum follow up,

A Beautiful Lie (2005) boasted two Top 5 Modern Rock singles “From Yesterday” and “The Kill,” which set the record for the longest-running hit in the history of Modern Rock radio with airplay for more than 50 weeks following its #3 peak in 2006.

The band mates traveled to four different continents over three years to keep up with recording while front-man Jared Leto was filming several movies.

Thirty Seconds to Mars’ newest album This Is War (2009) is a reference to the band’s personal battles, a commentary on global crises and economic turmoil, and homage to their now infamous $30,000,000 lawsuit with Virgin Records. This Is War is a triumphant, sonically epic game-changer that builds on the vision laid out in previous album releases.

In addition to Jared’s searing, no-holds-barred vocals, propulsive and melodious bass, guitar and keyboards, Shannon’s huge and inventive percussion, and guitarist Tomo Milicevic’s searing six-string, This Is War buzzes with dozens of imaginative effects and indomitable layers of vintage synths. These sounds include the cry of a wild hawk screaming to introduce the first single, “Kings and Queens” which charted #1 on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks.

The single inspired a short film called “The Ride,” directed by Thirty Seconds to Mars video director alum, Bartholomew Cubbins (“The Kill,” “From Yesterday”).

This event is produced by Andrew Hewitt and Live Nation. Doors will open at 8 p.m. and show time is 9 p.m.

The Pearl Box Office is open Sunday from noon – 7 p.m., Monday from noon – 10:30 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday from noon – 7 p.m. and Thursday, Friday and Saturday from noon – 10 p.m.

The Pearl is sponsored by Citi; for more information on upcoming concerts, please call 702-942-6888.

Cunard to Broadcast April 29 Royal Wedding on Three Ships

November 30, 2010 on 9:29 am | In Cruise Boats, London, United Kingdom | Comments Off

Cunard’s three ships will broadcast Prince William’s wedding on April 29 on all three ships.

Each ship features Royal Court Theatres where the wedding ceremony will be broadcast live.

Queen Mary 2’s Royal Court Theatre seats more than 1,000 guests, who will be able to watch the wedding ceremony as the ship sails between New York and Southampton, on a seven-night trans-Atlantic crossing, April 26 to May 2.

“If demand for seats exceeds supply, we are able to use our Planetarium and lecture room, Illuminations, which seats a further 450 passengers,” said Peter Shanks, president of Cunard.

The Royal Court Theatres on the smaller Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria seat over 800 passengers, and they too will be used to screen the royal nuptials live.

At the time, Queen Elizabeth will be at sea heading for Southampton, and Queen Victoria will be at sea in the Mediterranean.

The day will also be one of celebration on all ships, with that evening’s dinner featuring a commemorative menu and a champagne toast.
