Amsterdam’s Hotel De L’Europe All-Suite Wing

December 19, 2010 on 4:54 pm | In Netherlands | Comments Off

The Hotel De L’Europe recently opened its new Dutch Masters Wing, an all-suite annex of 23 loft-like quarters, each with a different yet exacting replica painting from the nearby Rijksmuseum National Gallery — a full-picture reproduction plus two thumbnail details.

The Dutch Masters Wing is temporarily home to Hoofdstad Brasserie and Freddy’s Bar, named for Alfred “Freddy” Heineken, who entertained here and donated the original Dutch Masters paintings adorning the walls.

Hotel De L’Europe’s original RondeelBuilding, a city-designated landmark and long considered an oasis of calm in the midst of Amsterdam’s city center, is undergoing a top-to-bottom refurbishment, with anticipated completion in April 2011.

To kick off the wing’s first holiday season, the hotel is featuring a Stylishly Suite package which includes two nights in a junior suite, an intimate, studio designed for short stays or quick city breaks with a choice of river or city views, or a superior suite which is an oversized loft-style studio overlooking the city with the same amenities of a junior suite plus a king-size bed, larger living quarters/seating area and additional closet space.

The package also includes daily breakfast, holiday high tea (including cocktails) at Freddy’s Bar, and one 30-minute horse carriage tour of the city expertly navigated by Gerard and his 6-year-old geldings Quinn and Koblentz.

The package is priced at $1,550 for a junior suite or $2,260 for a superior suite, and valid through Dec. 28 subject to availability.

Eurail Global Pass Adds Bulgaria to Rail Network

December 19, 2010 on 4:53 pm | In Bulgaria, Europe, Rail Tours | Comments Off

Bulgaria will open its rails to Eurail Global Pass holders in 2011.

This means that the Global Pass will offer pass holders unlimited access to the national railways of 22 European countries. The Eurail Group G.I.E. is dedicated to the marketing and management of the Eurail Pass product range and strives toward making the various Eurail Pass offer value for money while working on behalf of the participating railways.

According to the Bulgaria Tourism Report for 2010, the renowned “Country of Roses” attracts millions of overseas travelers each year. In April 2009, the Bulgarian government approved the National Strategy for Sustainable Development of Tourism from 2009 to 2013.

The popularity of Bulgaria and its coastline has seen a steady increase following the fall of communism and the opening of borders between neighboring countries. Eurail Group G.I.E. wishes to respond to the allure of Eastern Europe by expanding its Global Pass range in an attempt to encourage environmentally responsible and affordable tourism.

Eurail Global and Eurail Select Passes remain the core products for the Eurail Group and the sales of the Eurail Select Pass have risen compared to the same period last year. Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland remain in the top five of the most popular Select Pass combinations.

Eurail officials predict that these trends will continue with the introduction of several new high-speed developments in Italy, Spain and Finland, making travelling through Europe by train easier than ever.
