News From Hastings & 1066 Country
January 30, 2011 on 5:38 pm | In London, United Kingdom | Comments OffHaving just passed what is said to be the most depressing day of the year, January could well be described as a gloomy month for most. That’s if you don’t happen to be one of these fortunate award winners who are grinning from ear and spreading a great deal of much appreciated sunshine on the tourism and culinary scene here in 1066 Country.
Five star Saltcote Place in Rye was delighted to hear of their third place in the top ten B&Bs in the world, as voted by Trip Advisor subscribers this month. Rye and District boasts one of the highest densities of Visit Britain five star gold award guest houses in the country and Paul and Alan of Saltcote Place are happy to be riding high among them.
This award brings some fabulous attention to Rye, whose quality restaurants and inns, antique shops and tea rooms, make it the perfect place for a short break. Rye is lucky to have in the surrounding area the wonderful Rye Nature Reserve, attractions such as Bodiam Castle and Great Dixter House and Gardens and the lovely hilltop town of Winchelsea, not to mention nearby Camber Sands.
Hot on the heels of this news, The Curlew at Bodiam was delighted to announce that they have joined 142 top UK and Ireland restaurants after earning its first Michelin Star in the 2011 Guide.
The Curlew is located in a structurally restored Grade II listed timber framed 17th Century Coaching Inn. The Curlew owners, Mark and Sara Colley’s vision was to deliver a national standard restaurant on the doorstep of a local community passionate about food and dining; a restaurant that bridged the gap between gastro pub and fine dining, a modern, British Bistro.
After receiving the news, Mark and Sara Colley enthused: “The Curlew’s Michelin star has come as a very, very welcome surprise. The star represents the hard work of so many people, most notably our very talented Head Chef, Neil McCue, a raft of incredible local suppliers and a staff team committed to good service.”
Head Chef Neil McCue added: “This star is all about sourcing excellent ingredients and letting them speak for themselves and trusting produce. It’s about not hiding anything or piling more and more on the plate, it’s for stripping ingredients right back to their core.”
And the good news doesn’t stop there! Just after hearing about these exciting developments we learned that Nobles Restaurant in the historic town of Battle has been awarded two knives and forks in the 2011 Michelin Guide, the only restaurant in town to have been Michelin accredited this year.
Nobles won their first knife & fork after being open for just 18 months and now after just 3 years the guide has recognised the efforts of husband and wife team, Paul and Debbie Noble, with this prestigious award for their consistency, care and attention to the whole dining experience.
Head chef Paul Noble said of his restaurant’s achievement in this guide ” We are very pleased to have this long standing highly recognised guide acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all our team and also to highlight in their text that we are very proud of our local and seasonal produce & suppliers “.
