Standing five stories above the South Beach Art Deco District, Intimissi Lounge is an intimate rooftop sanctuary offering a sense of tranquility with its sprawling day beds, plush love seats and unobstructed panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Upon nightfall, the candlelit deck, accented with soft lighting and music, slowly transforms into an adults-only tropical oasis. TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE IN SOUTHERN TANZANIA

March 24, 2011 on 9:21 am | In Adventure Travel, Africa, Cabinweb, Tanzania | Comments Off

Choose to safari in southern Tanzania and be in for a big surprise. There’s not just amazing game viewing to be seen from private open-sided 4×4 Land Rovers, but also the chance to get up close and personal to the animals by boat, on foot and to spend a night in an authentic fly tent in the middle of the bush when staying at the Selous Safari Camp.

Situated within an open palm forest on the shores of Lake Nzerakera, a large lake which adjoins the mighty Rufiji River, the Selous Safari Camp is in one of the most photogenic areas of the Selous Game Reserve. Take a boat safari in one of the camp’s sturdy motor boats and cruise closely past crocodiles, hippos, buffalo and elephant – a totally unique experience to the camp. Not only are there fantastic photo opportunities for animals, but also for birds as there is some of the best water-birding in Africa.

For an alternative bush experience, a guided walking safari or overnight fly tent trip in the Selous Game Reserve takes guests even closer to nature. Accompanied by a watchman and a fully-qualified armed guide, the walks leave at 6.30am in order to avoid the heat of the day. Taken at a gentle pace through the wilderness, the emphasis is on ecology, tracking, dung identification, medicinal uses of trees, birding and many other aspects of the bush which are often neglected when driving in a vehicle.

Walks concentrate primarily on the smaller, unseen yet no-less-interesting part of nature however there is always the feeling of wondering if something big might be around the next bush. Lion are sometimes seen as well as the elusive wild dogs, whilst elephants, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, waterbuck, warthog and impala are plentiful.

For the active or more adventurous, an overnight bush walking safari, accommodating a maximum of six adults, can be arranged for a small supplement (payable locally) where guests can spend one or two nights in the bush accompanied by a walking guide. Accommodation is in dome-shaped open fly tents which come complete with mosquito net, comfortable mattresses, crisp linen and hot “bucket” showers. Giving an authentic ‘old-style-safari’ feel, dinner is taken under the starry sky around a fire as the sun sets. A truly magical experience not to be missed!

The 13-tent Selous Safari Camp boasts unrivalled views, privacy and luxury in the heart of the Selous Game Reserve. Selous is Africa’s largest Game Reserve and has the highest concentration of African wildlife, countless birdlife and is home to over a million large animals and half of Tanzania’s elephant population.

After some serious game-viewing, guests are encouraged to take time out and relax on the shores of the Indian Ocean at Ras Kutani, a boutique coastal lodge of castaway luxury. With unspoilt deserted beaches, a fresh water lagoon and warm blue seas, Ras Kutani’s location is perfect for those looking to unwind.

A nine-night bush safari and beach experience in Tanzania is available with Esplanade Travel (www.esplanadetravel.com  / 1.800.628.4893 / 1.617.266.7465) from $4,490 per person. Valid for travel in June 2011 and subject to availability, the price includes accommodation on a full-board basis with three nights at Jongomero Camp and three nights at the Selous Safari Camp including daily game drives in open sided 4×4 vehicles as well as three nights in a cottage at the exclusive beach retreat of Ras Kutani. Complimentary snorkelling equipment, kayaks and boogie boards are on offer at Ras Kutani. Also included are all national park and concession fees, road and air transfers. International flights not included.

The Selous Safari Company comprises two safari camps; the Selous Safari Camp in the Selous Game Reserve and Jongomero in the Ruaha National Park, in addition to the remote beach retreat of Ras Kutani. All three properties are found in southern Tanzania on the east coast of Africa.

Beachcomber Hotels and Vets Tennis GB are delighted to announce the first ever commercial sponsorship of Vets Tennis GB and becoming the title sponsor of the National Inter-Club Championships, to be known as “The Beachcomber National Inter-Club Championships 2011”.

Beachcomber Hotels is working with The Veterans’ Lawn Tennis Association of Great Britain (Vets Tennis GB) and has agreed sponsorship initially for one year with a further two year option. The sponsorship presents Beachcomber with the opportunity to promote their holidays to the Indian Ocean islands of Mauritius and the Seychelles where the company has over 30 tennis courts at its hotels, all floodlit and maintained to a very high standard. Special tennis holiday packages will be promoted at the events as well as Beachcomber’s range of luxury family holidays.

Vets Tennis GB Secretary, Valerie Willoughby, said “Veterans’ tennis in Great Britain has shown continued growth in recent years and is immensely popular. We have a full fixture event calendar offering international as well as domestic competition catering for players of all standards. Many of our competitors have played at the very highest levels of the game. We are thrilled and delighted to welcome Beachcomber as our first-ever official partner of Vets Tennis GB and we hope this proves to be the start of a long and mutually beneficial relationship.”

As a further element to the Championships, two lucky pairs from the 144 clubs will win a superb holiday to Mauritius for 7 nights with flights and accommodation provided.

Beachcomber Hotels have proven to be true pioneers of the Mauritian tourism industry, with eight exclusive properties established in exceptional positions throughout the island as well as one luxury resort on its own private island in the Seychelles called Sainte Anne Resort & Spa.

The Best Time To Go Guide For 70 Destinations

March 24, 2011 on 9:19 am | In Books Guidebooks | Comments Off

Before you plan your next journey, check out the The Best Time To Go Guide For 70 Destinations. Here’s a glimpse of three exciting travel destinations to consider.

Bora Bora, French Polynesia
Costly: June to August
Less Expensive: April and May
Summer means hot weather and humid, rainy conditions. The weather is more comfortable in April and May than during the height of summer. The humidity isn’t as prevalent, and the summer rains have dissipated. Best of all, as the crowds have not yet arrived, you’ll enjoy uncrowded resorts, low season rates and an excellent chance of upgrades.

Ireland
Costly: July and August
Less Expensive: April to June and September to October
The Emerald Isle is known for its rain, so you can expect a certain amount of damp at any time of the year. The weather is likely to be at least as good in May, June and September as in the summer months and hotels are less busy. Spring flowers are at their best in April and May, and October offers a frugal fan’s choice of free arts festivals.

Portland, Oregon
Costly: Mid-May to October
Less Expensive: January to March
The Pacific Northwest sees its fair share of rain, but the most popular time to visit is during the summer when braniacs take a break and outdoor festivals are everywhere. Winter is the least expensive time, with fewer crowds and more availability. Second cheapest are the spring and fall shoulder seasons, when the weather is cooler and schools are in session.
