As more European cities implement new taxes on travelers, Globus family of brands, which includes Globus, Cosmos and Monograms, said it absorbing the costs of these taxes.

Rome, Florence, Venice and Giardini Naxos (Sicily) have announced and implemented new city taxes, affecting the cost of travel for Americans.

“In addition to placing great value on our travelers’ time by offering them authentic, insightful and stress-free experiences worldwide, we value their money,” said Scott Nisbet, president and chief executive officer of the Globus family of brands.

“By absorbing new European city taxes, we’re not only ensuring our travelers the best deal, we’re showing them how much we appreciate their loyalty.”

Taking on the cost of newly enforced city taxes for travelers is not a new concept for Globus, which did the same when Cologne tacked on new taxes in 2010.

The new taxes charged by these destinations are between €1 and €5 per person, per night, depending on hotel star ratings, costing the company more than $1 million in 2011.

Crested Butte to Host Annual Vinotok Fall Wine Festival

August 25, 2011 on 2:58 pm | In Festivals, Rockies | Comments Off

Crested Butte, Colo., will host Vinotok, an autumn equinox celebration meaning “fall wine festival” in Slovenian, Sept. 18-24. Festivities will include medieval characters, a street theater performance, storytelling, music, a farmer’s market, and a community feast featuring regionally harvested dishes and a roast pig.

Weeks before the celebration, Grump Boxes will be set about town. Townspeople write down the grumps the grievances they want to forget at the change of seasons in order to move into the New Year with a clean slate. These thoughts are then stuffed into the Grump, a 20-foot tall grimacing effigy. Packages are available for the celebration. Call the Gunnison-Crested Butte Tourism Association at 800-814-8893 or visit www.gunnisoncrestedbutte.com/packages
