Focus on Fall Foliage Travel by Bike
SHERBORN, MA,– The tour operator who promotes independence on two wheels, Great Freedom Adventures (http://www.greatfreedomadventures.com/), announces that two iconic arts / crafts festivals coincide with fall bike tours of the Hudson Valley and Vermont.
The first is the annual Vermont Fine Furniture and Woodworking Festival Sept. 24-25 in Woodstock, VT, in tandem with a Sept. 25-30 tour “Best of Vermont”. The second is the Oct. 7-10 Art’s Walk in Hudson, NY, the region’s largest arts festival, that begins on the day an Oct. 2-7 Hudson Valley tour ends.
In both locations cyclists will ride high on seasonal sights and scents under fall foliage canopies that make these two regions best bets for autumn travel.
In tandem with the showcase in Woodstock of some of the world’s finest handmade furniture, the nearby Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park presents its annual Forest Festival that sheds light on the birthplace of the environmental movement in America and the fact that George Perkins Marsh and Frederick Billings were among the first men in the country to realize that deforesting land would ruin it.
“When Billings returned from the California Gold Rush to the barren hills of Vermont he did something about it by reforesting his Woodstock hills and building a farm that would serve as a model of wise stewardship for future generations,” said Rummel.
“Our tour guests hike the hillsides through this managed forest to a viewpoint which once again radiates with colorful autumn foliage.”
The Hudson Valley arts festival includes literary and music events and an Artist’s Marketplace at the waterfront in Hudson along the Hudson River.
Scheduled departures and per person double occupancy rates for all of Great Freedom Adventures’ late summer / fall programs are:
-Best of Vermont Fall Foliage Bike Tour – 6 Days/5 Nights; Sept. 25-30 at $2,395, single supplement $450

http://www.greatfreedomadventures.com/new-england-bike-tours.html
On all trips, guests may use their own bikes or take advantage of a complimentary helmet and bike offer from Great Freedom Adventures.
While biking is the main daily activity, none is a bike-compulsive itinerary. Company founder Jeanne Rummel has sleuthed out artisanal cheese-making farms, micro breweries, sunset sails, hiking trails, iconic homesteads, mansions, gardens and more to engage the curious in ways that allow them to discover new worlds.
Rummel has selected upscale lodges that mirror their locales and that also bring a diversity of proprietors into each regional and cultural mix.
The programs include some lunches and all but one dinner so that guests can explore local eateries on their own now and then. Lodging, all breakfasts, most meals, guides, van support, entrance fees where required and other region-specific costs are included in the tour rate, with the exception of alcoholic beverages and guide gratuities.

Early November Means Festival Season in Bhutan
August 20, 2011 on 2:11 pm | In Adventure Travel, Asia, Bhutan | Comments Off
The quality of trips offered by most travel companies changes with the ebb and flow of so-called “tourist seasons.”
Not so with Lake Tahoe-based company Myths and Mountains, which uses deep personal connections around the globe to provide its clients with life changing experiences all year.
In early November, when most destinations are either winding down or preparing for the start of their season, Myths and Mountains will offer one of its signature trips: READ Bhutan. Some of Bhutan’s most popular festivals take place in the first weeks of November, giving tourists an intimate look at one of Asia’s most vibrant cultures.
Travelers will spend 12 days touring the country, and will not only attend festivals but also visit local farms and villages.
Those who are handy in the kitchen can even learn to cook regional treats like Hontay or butter tea.
A portion of proceeds from the trip goes to benefit READ Bhutan, a non-profit devoted to teaching local children and adults to read.
A full itinerary is available here.
