Bolshoi Theatre To Reopen After Six Years
September 24, 2011 on 5:19 pm | In Festivals, Performing Arts, Russia, Webbandstand | Comments OffAfter six years of reconstruction costing £413 million, the Bolshoi theatre will finally reopen with a grandiose gala concert on October 28, 2011.
A few days after the ceremony a first season premiere “Ruslan and Lyudmila” by Glinka will be presented on the Bolshoi Theatre Main Stage.
Throughout the season 2011/2012 world premieres will be performed on the renovated Main Stage along with renewed masterpieces of Russian ballet and opera.
The Bolshoi is of course steeped in ballet history and known for hosting some of the greatest dancers ever seen. The neo-classical building closed for renovation in 2005 and the project has since been beset by delays with engineers discovering that 75 per cent of the building was unstable. It is now set to welcome future generations of ballet stars in a spectacular setting.
Audley offer a four day trip to Moscow including a ticket to the Bolshoi, flights, private transfers and a privately guided tour of the Kremlin from £1150 per person. Further details from Audley on 01993 838 200 www.audleytravel.com
