About the Opening and Closing Night Films:
Co-written and directed by Bruce Robinson (“The Killing Fields,” “Fat Man and Little Boy”), “The Rum Diary” is about an American journalist named Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp) who takes on a freelance job in Puerto Rico for a run-down local newspaper during the 1950s and struggles to find a balance between island culture and the expatriates who live there. During this critical turning point in his life, Paul is challenged on many levels as he tries to carve out a more secure niche for himself amidst a group of lost souls all bent on self-destruction.
The multi-award-winning cast includes Academy Award® nominated Johnny Depp (“Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, “Alice in Wonderland”), Golden Globe nominated Aaron Eckhart (“The Dark Knight,” “Battle Los Angeles”), Michael Rispoli (“Kick-Ass,” “The Talking of Pelham”), Amber Heard (“Zombieland,” “Drive Angry”), Academy Award® nominated Richard Jenkins (“The Visitor,” “Step Brothers”) Emmy Award nominated Giovanni Ribisi (“Avatar,” “Boiler Room”), Amaury Nolasco (“Max Payne,” “Transformers”) and Bill Smitrovich (“Seven Pounds,” “Independence Day”).
“The Rum Diary” is a Film District release and is currently in theaters.
“Breakaway” is directed by Robert Lieberman (“D3: The Mighty Ducks,” “Fire in the Sky”) and follows Toronto-based Rajvinder Singh, a hockey enthusiast since the age of 12, who struggles against traditional family values and discrimination from mainstream hockey players. He trimmed his hair, discarded his Pagri/turban, did not complete his education and most detrimentally, angered his father, Darvesh, who wanted to involve his son in the family business as well as confirm and respect Sikh religion principles and values.
Hoping to one day play professional hockey, Rajvinder, along with other fellow Sikh players, finds themselves treated as the object of ridicule, often referred to as a ‘joker’ by mainstream Caucasian players. He is attracted to stunning law student Melissa Winters while her brother, Dan, offers to coach Rajvinder and his team. Unable to get selected for any teams, they form their own.
The talented cast includes newcomer Vinay Virmani as protagonist Rajvinder Singh, Russel Peters (“Source Code”), Anupam Kher (“Bend It Like Beckham,” “Rang De Basanti”), Sakina Jaffrey (“Definitely, Maybe,” “The Indian in the Cupboard”), Akshay Kumar (“Khakee,” “Hera Pheri”), Noureen DeWulf (“Ghosts of Girlfriends,” “Ocean’s Thirteen”), Rob Lowe (“Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me,” “The West Wing”) and Camilla Belle (“What a Stranger Calls,” “The Lost World: Jurassic Park”).

Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Florida golf packages
November 22, 2011 on 4:46 pm | In Florida, Golf Resorts, Orlando | Comments OffLECANTO, Fla. — Black Diamond Ranch — Florida’s No. 1 residential golf community featuring 45 holes designed by Tom Fazio — announces its “Black Diamond Experience” stay-and-play packages, granting golfers unprecedented access to one of the U.S.’s premier private clubs.
For golfers who collect prestigious courses, the Pure Golf Getaway includes two nights’ accommodations in one of Black Diamond Ranch’s homes and two rounds of golf on its celebrated trinity of Fazio layouts; The Quarry, The Ranch and The Highlands. The package begins at $399 per person, based on quad-occupancy.
The Couples Golf Getaway, for those who want to experience the Black Diamond Ranch lifestyle, begins at $699 per couple. It also includes two nights’ accommodations and two rounds of golf.
“The Black Diamond Experience stay-and-play packages are a unique opportunity for golf lovers to sample the quality of life and membership programs the community offers its residents,” says David McDonald, president of Escalante Golf, owner and operator of Black Diamond Ranch.
Opened in 1987, The Quarry has been ranked one of “America’s 100 Greatest Courses” by Golf Digest and among the “Top 100 Courses in the U.S.” by GOLF Magazine. Forged through the cliffs and lakes of retired limestone quarries, it remains one of Fazio’s seminal works.
The Ranch, which members often cite as their favorite, places a premium on strategy and has drawn comparisons to Pine Valley. The Highlands is a stout 9-hole par-36 playing to almost 3,500 yards. It can be played in tandem with either of The Ranch’s nines.
Rates for both packages depend on season and day of the week. Additional nights’ accommodations and golf can be purchased. Those interested can request a Community Specialist guided tour of Black Diamond Ranch and meeting at its state-of-the-art Welcome Center (opening soon). For more information: www.blackdiamondranch.com krosselet@blackdiamondranch.com, (352) 453-5473.
Located in bucolic Citrus County, Black Diamond Ranch is a 1.5 hour drive from Tampa International Airport (TPA) and Orlando International Airport (MCO), both of which feature direct service from myriad markets in the U.S. and abroad.
About Black Diamond Ranch
Featuring three Tom Fazio-designed golf courses — The Quarry, The Ranch and The Highlands — Black Diamond Ranch has established itself as Florida’s No. 1 residential golf community since 1987.
The Quarry Course, set amongst limestone cliffs, live oak trees, dogwoods, myrtles and magnolias, has been ranked one of “America’s 100 Greatest Courses” by Golf Digest and among the “Top 100 Courses in the U.S.” by GOLF Magazine. Black Diamond Ranch has earned a place on LINKS Magazine’s list of “America’s 100 Premier Properties,” and is perennially featured on Golfweek’s “Best U.S. Residential Golf Courses” list.
Completed in 1997, The Ranch Course was carefully crafted to gently blend into its natural surroundings. Reminiscent of Pine Valley, The Ranch Course sports rolling fairways and dramatic elevation changes of over 100 feet. With stunning hilltop views of up to 25 miles, the nine-hole Highlands Course (completed in 1999), is a magnificent mix of lush, rippling fairways, stands of oak and pine, pristine water features and mesmerizing natural beauty.

Bird Watching Paradise, from November 16 to November 23, 2012.
The Nature of Cuba, from November 16 to November 25, 2012.
Cuba’s diverse wildlife stems from its unique natural history. Cuba was not originally in the Caribbean Sea but in the Pacific Ocean, where the island was situated 100 million years ago, before the forces of continental drift slowly brought it into the Caribbean. As the island migrated over the ages, an astonishing variety of life arrived by air, sea, and possibly by land bridges that may have once existed. Over time, these animals adapted to their new environment.
This isolation has contributed to an extraordinary high rate of biodiversity and endemism. Cuba, the largest island in the Greater Antilles, boats about 350 species of birds, 21 of those birds are endemic to the island, including the smallest bird in the world: the Bee hummingbird (Mellisuga helenae). Cuba is also a major stopover for migratory waterfowl birds
Authentic Cuba Travel’s nature and bird watching tours represent a great opportunity for US professionals to explore Cuba’s biodiversity and natural history. They are also a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get to know the Cuban people, music, food, architecture, and culture of Cuba.
Authentic Cuba Travel nature and bird watching Cuba tours are escorted by world class Cuban scholars, nature conservationist and university graduated tour guides.

REACH MUSICAL NIRVANA IN SCOTTSDALE
November 22, 2011 on 4:40 pm | In Southwest, Webbandstand | Comments OffMusic has long been embedded in Scottsdale’s nightlife and cultural offerings, but recently the tourism Mecca has turned the volume up. The new Center Stage Bar at Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch offers live music every night of the week in a chic, but comfortable setting. Earlier this year, the resort designed a state-of-the-art sound system and installed a stage in what was then-called the Lobby Bar. Now, you can get a front row view of artists such as The Waters, a husband and wife duo whose powerful vocals and guitar melodies intertwine for the ultimate listening experience. Also on the weekly lineup is 16-year-old Lea Cappelli, who is making big splashes in the music scene despite her youth. Cappelli, whose rich jazzy style is reminiscent of Billie Holiday with a twist of Fiona Apple, was used in the original promo for the television show “The Voice.”
Culinary Dropout, the so-called “rebel child” of Fox Restaurant Concepts , offers more than amped-up pub appetizers, salads, sandwiches, entrees and an Antipasti menu. A couple of nights each week, the trendy downtown restaurant turns into a live music venue with performers such as Bluesman Mike Anderson and singer, songwriter Angela Ferrari taking the stage. Enjoy drinks and delectable dishes in a casual setting while listening to the soulful tunes. To find out what musical acts are playing when, follow Culinary Dropout on Facebook. For media information, contact Holly Harmon at hollyhrmn@gmail.com or 480-510-5307.
Beginning on Jan. 15, 2012, enjoy the mild winter weather while listening to live music outdoors during Sunday A’Fair at the Scottsdale Civic Center Park. Brought to you by the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts , Sunday A’Fair is a free concert series that runs through April 15 and caters to families, art enthusiasts and music lovers. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and listen to Scottsdale’s finest musicians.
