Le Boat Launches a Magnifique Vision for 2012

November 18, 2011 on 3:17 pm | In Australia, Cruise Boats, Denmark, Europe, France, Germany, New South Wales, Northern, Paris, Queensland, South Australia, Sydney, Tasmania, Victoria, Western | Comments Off

Le Boat’s new Le Boat 1500 Series – The Vision is unique to Le Boat and unlike any other cruiser on the waterways. The Vision boasts the very latest marine and green technology for efficient and effortless cruising.

The Vision is available in both hybrid (diesel and electric) and non-hybrid (diesel only) models and promises to set new standards of luxury cruising on Europe’s waterways. Featuring an advanced pod-drive system the Vision Series offers a host of technical features never before seen on inland waterway cruisers, as well as superior levels of comfort and on-board facilities.

Built by renowned yacht-building company, Groupe Bénéteau, two models of the new Vision joined the Le Boat fleet for the 2011 season.

The Vision3 (6+4) sleeps six adults comfortably in three cabins. An optional fold-down bed in each cabin sleeps three extra and there is room for one extra in the convertible saloon area.
The Vision4 (8+1) sleeps eight adults comfortably in four cabins with room for one extra in the convertible saloon area.
Key features of the Vision include:

Super-easy maneuvering via the joy-stick on the upper deck: The joy-stick allows the boat to turn 360 degrees as well as forwards, sideways, backwards and diagonally in all directions. Le Boat customers will be able to dock and manoeuvre the boat in locks with the lightest of touches and minimal effort. The joy-stick is connected to the boat’s hi-tech pod-drive system. Revolutionary for inland waterway cruisers, the pod can turn 90 degrees in each direction and replaces the need for a rudder, enabling the boat to turn in all directions. Customers continue to steer the boat with a normal steering wheel using a marine-style throttle for speed control and a bow thruster provides additional easy-docking capabilities.

Green cruising: A single high-performance solar panel provides continuous green energy to the boat’s lightweight, high performance battery bank (produced by Valance). In addition, the boat’s unique hull design ensures minimal energy to move through the water, thereby protecting the wildlife habitats and bank-sides, preventing erosion.

Quiet engine efficiency: Latest diesel engine (produced by Volkswagen Marine) offers unbeatable fuel efficiency and emission control, as well as low noise and vibration levels.
Designer interior & exterior: All cabins have full-sized twin beds that convert to double beds, TV/DVD players and feature an en-suite bath for maximum privacy and comfort. All parts of the boat have individually controlled heating and air-conditioning. The large open plan kitchen/saloon area is equipped with 220v appliances such as an extra-large fridge/freezer, gas oven, stove top and microwave and TV/DVD player for real home-from-home vacation cruising. Panoramic views from the large bow area create a wonderful sense of light and space.
Fully equipped, spacious top deck: Unbeatable top deck space with seating for 10 adults makes for an exceptional outdoor cruising experience. There is plenty of sunbathing space for three adults on the fly bridge and an electric BBQ, bar refrigerator, sink and prep area ensure that alfresco dining is easily available. A collapsible bimini (sun shade) covering the entire top deck provides shade for captain and crew as required.

Commenting on the Vision series Cheryl Powell, Le Boat’s Chief Operating Officer, says: “Cruising on the Vision is like child’s play, she is just so easy to manoeuvre and so responsive to steer. We have made a huge effort to ensure she really does offer outstanding on-board comforts and facilities too, making her the best boat on the waterways for a truly exceptional vacation cruising experience.”

New for 2012 – A Vision Crew

For an extra touch of luxury and even more relaxing vacation, the Vision now can be chartered with a Skipper to drive the boat and Chef/Host to prepare delicious local cuisine. This service will only be offered on the Canal du Midi in the months of July through September and is only an extra $2040 per week for both crew members.

Peregrine has launched its voyages to the awe-inspiring and rugged wilderness of the Antarctic region for season 2012- 13 with a 15% off early booking discount.

The 15% offer is per person on all twin share cabin prices on all their Antarctic voyages on board the Sea Spirit and the Clipper Adventurer, for departures between October 2012 and March 2013. Bookings must be made by November 30, 2011 to take advantage of this deal, which is not valid for triple share cabins.

Sailing on the luxurious Sea Spirit with a maximum of 112 passengers, the 16 day South Georgia in Depth voyage is a perfect mix of up close wildlife experiences with historic insights into the whaling industry and the great explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton. On the remote and hauntingly beautiful island of South Georgia amongst the snow-clad mountains and massive glaciers there are huge king penguin rookeries, thousands of sub-Antarctic fur seals, the comical macaroni penguins and spectacular wilderness that is perhaps unequalled on earth. There is only one departure for this voyage from Ushuaia on October 28, 2012.

If time constraints are a consideration, a wonderful way to experience the majesty of what Antarctica has to offer is on Peregrine’s new 8 day Antarctic Express – fly South & North. A brief but very scenic flight from Punta Arenas in Chile over the Drake Passage to King George Island is where the voyage starts. Setting sail aboard the well appointed expedition vessel, the Clipper Adventurer, the journey encompasses many shore landings via Zodiac boats in the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. This voyage offers the chance to witness the dramatic scenery and the Antarctic wildlife in all its glory. Normally priced from $10,200 per person for a main deck cabin, the reduced price for the Antarctic Express – fly South & North is from $8670 per person. There is one departure in January and one in February 2013.

The 15% discount is only for new bookings made before November 30 and applies to the voyage only and flights included in the trips. It does not apply to international flights, visas, transfers and extra accommodation.

Clients that have previously travelled with Peregrine on a polar voyage are able to add their loyalty reward, entitling them to a 20% discount.

Duke of Richmond Hotel, Guernsey, to Undergo Refurbishment

November 18, 2011 on 3:11 pm | In Beachbooker, London, United Kingdom | Comments Off

Under New Red Carnation Ownership

The Duke of Richmond Hotel in Guernsey, the recent addition to the boutique Red Carnation Hotel collection, will undergo a major refurbishment program that will bring new levels of luxury and comfort to its guests. The refurbishments will deliver the high standards for which the rest of this award-winning portfolio is renowned.

The hotel, acquired by Red Carnation Hotels in October this year, will close from January 2 to April 30, 2012, to allow the projects team, led by President and Founder Mrs Beatrice Tollman, to undertake the renovations. These will include a fun and hip restaurant offering casual dining, state-of-the-art open kitchen, brand new bar, upgrades to the meeting and banqueting space and the refurbishment of a number of bedrooms and suites.

Sumptuous interiors boasting luxurious fabrics, eclectic art and antique pieces are hallmarks of all the Red Carnation Hotels. These will be combined with such current technology as flat screen TVs, iPod docking stations and complimentary wi-fi to meet the needs of business and leisure travellers alike. The refurbishment will also mean that all bedrooms and public areas at the hotel will be fully air conditioned .

Ideally located in central St. Peter Port, the three-star Duke of Richmond overlooks a quiet park and the marinas, with fantastic views of the harbour and neighbouring islands of Herm and Sark. The upgrade program will ensure it meets deluxe four-star standards.

The Duke of Richmond is just a five-minute walk from sister hotel The Old Government House Hotel and Spa, which earlier this summer became Guernsey’s first and only five-star property.

Jonathan Raggett, managing director of Red Carnation Hotels commented: “Mrs Tollman and her projects team have some brilliant plans and ideas for the Duke of Richmond. We are really excited about enhancing this much-loved three-star hotel and making it the best four-star on the island.”

Abu Dhabi Event Packages

November 18, 2011 on 3:10 pm | In Abu Dhabi, Middle East, Webbandstand | Comments Off

New Resort & Major Events Line Up To Heighten Appeal

An up-scaled major events calendar, a flurry of superior resort openings and compelling visitor package deals are set to woo Asian guests to Abu Dhabi in the final quarter of this year.

Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) and a delegation of its hospitality stakeholders are at ITB Asia to spell out the destination’s enhanced proposition as Abu Dhabi focuses on the Asian market.

“The number of Asian travellers staying in the emirate’s hotels have risen 23% in the first eight months of this year on the same period in 2010,” explained Mubarak Al Nuaimi, International Promotions Manager, ADTA.

“And with increased air access through the recently launched four-times-a-week Cathay Pacific service from Hong Kong to Abu Dhabi and the planned launch by Etihad Airways, our award-wining national airline of four, non-stop services a week from Chengdu, China’s south-west economic hub, from December 15 and a daily non-stop service from Shanghai from March, the prospects are even brighter.”

As the emirate readies to open a slew of luxury hotels and resorts over the coming months, ADTA and key stakeholders are pumping up promotion surrounding a packed year-end/New Year major events programme. The line up includes: the third Formula 1™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this November to be followed the same month by the third edition of Abu Dhabi Art, the annual boutique platform for modern and contemporary art to be held in the UAE World Expo pavilion which drew over two million visitors in Shanghai last year and is being re-erected on Saadiyat Island; December’s nationwide celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates and the Mubadala World Tennis Championship which gets the ball rolling on the global tennis season; the highly-anticipated New Year hosting of the Volvo Ocean Race fleet for a two-week ‘carnival-style’ stopover and January’s European Tour-backed, Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.

“It’s going to be action all the way in Abu Dhabi over the coming six months,” said Al Nuaimi.

“We have a great accommodation and attractions infrastructure now in place, keener competitiveness with a significant fall in hotel rates in the emirate over the past 12 months and a more compelling story with which to engage.”

A number of factors are driving the growth, including Abu Dhabi’s increasing competitiveness as a luxury tourism destination. The Hogg Robinson Group recently ranked the UAE capital as the 24th most expensive city in the world in terms of hotel room cost – a 22-position drop in two years.

This competitiveness will be positively exploited as Abu Dhabi launches its winter season events programme.

First off the grid will be the Formula 1™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, running November 11-13th. Event organisers, in addition to ADTA, Etihad Airways and Hala, the UAE national carrier’s tailored travel solutions service, are well progressed in offering a wealth of F1-related packages to consumers and tour operators.

An emirate-wide activation of the event is moving into top gear. The downtown Corniche beach will stage the high octane, week-long Yasalam festival of free movies, concerts, and performances for the entire family. At Yas Marina Circuit, F1™ ticket holders will revel in a full spectrum of support races and a wide variety of entertainment in the track Oases.

Three-day ticket holders have the added benefit of a pit-lane walk on the Thursday before the race. As in previous years, some of the world’s top acts will perform nightly in the Yas Arena exclusively for Grand Prix ticket holders, courtesy of FLASH Entertainment. Britney Spears will headline the opening night concert with music legend Paul McCartney bringing the curtain down on the closing night concert.

Just two weeks later Abu Dhabi will pull out all the stops for its much anticipated 40th National Day Anniversary celebrations.

Aimed at UAE nationals, expats and tourists, the National Day festivities will run along five distinct themes: Father Zayed (the UAE’s founding President), Spirit of the Union, History, Cosmopolitan Community and Future.

Starting October 24, the events will build over 40 days and run in major locations across Abu Dhabi emirate, including Zayed Sports City, Saadiyat and Yas islands and the capital’s Corniche, as well as the emirate’s heritage city of Al Ain and the Al Gharbia Western Region.

For the New Year Volvo Ocean Race hosting, ADTA has built a specialised ‘Destination Village’ in the heart of the UAE capital. The 55,000m² development has transformed a landmark stretch of breakwater overlooking the signature Corniche, which will be the on-the-ground activity hub until the fleet departs for Sanya, China mid-January.

Around the size of eight football pitches, the Destination Village will be open free-of-charge to the public daily from December 31 to January 14 next year. ADTA anticipates more than 100,000 visitors will pass through its gates.

The highly interactive village, which will leverage the emirate’s long-established maritime heritage, will be packed with activities and entertainment, including exhibitions, shows, simulators, hospitality, game zones, food & beverage outlets and merchandise shops.

ADTA is working with international tour operators, hotels, airlines and other stakeholders to develop compelling New Year-Volvo Ocean Race packages to the emirate.

And the emirate’s European Tour-backed Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship will return mid-January for its seventh edition. Regularly pulling in one of the world’s top fields, the event – which takes place at the iconic Abu Dhabi Golf Club – gives fans a true up-close spectator experience, backed by a diverse hospitality and entertainment offering.

In addition to its packed events calendar, the destination is expecting an additional 3,000 plus hotel rooms – most of which belong to beachfront properties – to come online by the year end.

To meet increased visitor demand, a number of luxury five-star resorts will come on stream over the coming months, all to be managed by leading high-end operators.

These include the Westin Hotel & Spa, Abu Dhabi Golf Club; the Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa by Anantara; the Hyatt Capital Gate, which borders Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC); the Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi, Saadiyat Island; the Rocco Forte Hotel Abu Dhabi, the luxury brand’s first foray into the Middle East; the ultra-luxurious St Regis Saadiyat Resort and Residences, Saadiyat Island; the iconic Jumeriah at Etihad Towers on the UAE capital’s sweeping Corniche beachfront; and the Ritz Carlton Abu Dhabi, Grand Canal Abu Dhabi, which overlooks a private marina.

“Strong growth across the board continues to enhance Abu Dhabi’s vitality with Middle Eastern and international guests. A well-thought out and measured hotel development programme, increasing air-links, a major events programme and strategic stakeholder co-ordination are bearing fruit,” said Al Nuaimi.

“We are also reaping the benefits of big name show weekends on Yas Island and the Etihad Airways-led ‘Essential Abu Dhabi’ incentive campaign which delivers destination discounts and benefits to passengers of the award-winning carrier who stay in Abu Dhabi.”

Strong hotel guest and occupancy growth, coupled with a burgeoning hotel inventory and heightened destination competitiveness saw ADTA revise its 2011 hotel guest targets upwards to 2 million, up from the originally forecasted 1.9.

The number of guests staying in the emirate’s hotels and hotel apartments rose to 1.35 million during the first eight-months of 2011 – a 13% increase on the same period last year. Guest nights increased 25% to just over 4 million while occupancy levels rose to 67% – up from 62% last year. Average-length-of-stay expanded 12% to just under three nights.

Soaring in African Skies

November 18, 2011 on 2:59 pm | In Adventure Travel, Africa, Kenya, South Africa | Comments Off

Imagine floating silently and unobserved above the African bush catching an intimate look at the wildlife, soaking up breathtaking views and all as you’re soaring through the sky. An extraordinary way to view the vast beauty of Africa, a balloon flight offers holidaymakers a unique perspective of the continent and is the perfect way to enhance a safari. Mahlatini, the luxury travel experts who specialise in African travel offer amazing balloon safaris in a variety of locations.

The Belfast based travel operator has carefully selected a range of safari destinations with conditions that are ideal for balloon trips. The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, the Masai Mara in Kenya and the Kafue in Zambia have all been chosen due to the geography of the areas. All have large expanses of plain which make viewing conditions perfect for holidaymakers – so they can see swathes of wildebeest charging across the bush, roaming herds of elephants and prides of lions basking in the sun.

For those looking for a different kind of aerial experience, Mahlatini have also identified two stunning South African locations with spectacular landscape panoramas, guaranteed to wow. The magnificent and breathtaking Blyde River Canyon with its lush subtropical foliage and deep precipitous cliffs and the Western Cape Wine lands with staggering and extraordinary views above the lush vineyards against the dramatic backdrop of the mountains.

Balloon safaris usually start early in the morning so that holidaymakers can watch the sun come up. After an hour or so floating across the countryside the trip culminates back on the ground with a bush breakfast. Most safaris can accommodate up to 16 people so large groups can travel together. However, more private and romantic trips can also be arranged especially for honeymooners.

Greg Fox of Mahlatini said “A balloon experience enhances any safari, demonstrating the sheer scale and beauty of the African bush and it’s wildlife from a completely different perspective.”

A typical balloon safari including bush breakfast will cost £340 per person at the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania and the Masai Mara in Kenya and £270 at Kafue, Zambia. The South African balloon safaris over Blyde River Canyon and the Western Cape Winelands cost £280 per person.
