Clayton Bailey Exhibit at the Crocker Art Museum
A ceramist, sculptor, and self-proclaimed “mad scientist,” Bailey aims to surprise and delight with his art. This exhibition presents the full range of his inspired eccentricity in clay and metal, including his early ceramic critters, signature “exploding pots,” life-sized robot sculptures, and ray guns realized from discarded aluminium. Also included are Bailey’s pseudo-scientific discoveries, including proof of “Big Foot” and ceramic fossils from the “Bone Age,” made under the name of his scientific alter-ego, Dr. George Gladstone. Visitors to the exhibition will also experience the artist’s fully realized environments, including his backyard “Kaolithic” discoveries and mockumentary “Museum of Wonders” from his home in the Bay Area. In all, 180 works and complementary ephemera span 50 years of Bailey’s prodigious production of genuine marvels.

The Crocker’s exhibition includes all of these techniques, ranging from Marvin Lipofsky’s blown sculptures and vases from the 1960s to Dale Chihuly’s elaborate “Macchia Seaform Group” from the 1980s, to more recently acquired sculptural works by Therman Statom and Nancy Mee. Give the Gift of Travel with CityPASS
November 28, 2011 on 4:52 pm | In , Theme Parks Zoos Aquariums, USA | Comments OffTired of giving the same old gifts: toys they’ll play with only once, dress socks, fruitcake? Then give the gift of an unforgettable experience that will be remembered for a lifetime. Give the gift of travel with CityPASS.
This holiday season, give your loved ones, family and friends something they’ll never forget — memories: stunning views from the top of the Empire State Building and the Space Needle; tours of Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre, home of the Oscars, and Space Center Houston, home to NASA’s Apollo-era Mission Control; or an exciting tour of Southern California’s most thrilling theme parks, including Disneyland, Disney California Adventure Park, Universal Studios Hollywood and SeaWorld San Diego.
Each CityPASS ticket booklet contains prepaid admission to a destination’s top attractions, based on visitor attendance. So, visitors who use CityPASS have entrée to a city’s can’t-miss, must-see sights. And, in many cases, those same visitors take the VIP route, using their CityPASS to skip the main-entrance ticket line. CityPASS is available for Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Hollywood, Houston, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Southern California and Toronto.
CityPASS also benefits the gift giver, trimming up to half off what it would cost to purchase individual tickets to the included attractions separately. New York CityPASS, for example, costs $79 and includes admission tickets whose combined retail value is nearly double that price.
CityPASS is also a great solution for locals who may be hosting friends or family members over the holidays — not to mention looking for ways to entertain the kids over the winter break. Even if you can’t take time off work to play tour guide, you can be certain your guests won’t miss any of the top sights. With a CityPASS in hand, they’ll see the best your city has to offer.
For more information on the CityPASS experience, visit CityPASS.com
All CityPASS products are available at CityPASS.com or can be purchased at any of the participating attractions. Passes are valid for nine consecutive days (14 days for Southern California), beginning with the first day of use. Located in the heart of India’s Eastern Himalayan range, bordering Nepal to the west, the Tibetan Plateau to the north and east, and Bhutan to the southeast, the Buddhist kingdom of Sikkim is one of the smallest and least populous states in India. Despite its size, Sikkim is a cultural hot spot, with a dozen official languages and two predominant religions, Hinduism and Vajrayana Buddhism. The Buddhist Kingdom of Sikkim has a climate range from subtropical to high alpine and a variety of terrain, including mountains, glaciers, lakes, rivers, and streams. Due to Sikkim’s altitudinal variation, the state has more than 4,000 plant species, such as 450 exotic orchids as well as rhododendron forests, and fauna including indigenous birds, endangered species like red pandas, snow leopards, blue yaks, and over 650 species of butterflies.
On private, guided, customizable itineraries, guests travel from village to village during the day and spend nights in authentic village houses that have been gently retouched. Clients can traverse the terraced foothills of the Himalayas, the youngest and highest mountains on earth, while catching glimpses of Mt. Kangchenjunga (the world’s third-highest mountain at a staggering 28,000-foot elevation) and rare endangered species on the way to Rinchenpong Monastery.
