In April 2012, the Hotel Indigo San Diego Del Mar opened following a multimillion-dollar renovation and rebranding of the former 94-room Stratford Inn in downtown Del Mar. The property now offers a full-service day-spa, two pools, hot tub, sauna and bistro-style restaurant with a full bar, among other amenities. Each room features indigenous murals depicting elements from the neighboring Del Mar Racetrack and local beaches.

Additionally, two ocean-view terraces with fire pits allow guests to enjoy the temperate Southern California weather. Room amenities include high-definition flat screen TVs, iHome stations and Aveda products. Opened June 2012 in Carlsbad in San Diego’s North County, the Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort & Spa is a full-scale oceanfront resort with a California Craftsman design. The resort offers 215 rooms and suites and 25,300 sq. ft. of indoor, outdoor and pre-function meeting space including an ocean view garden.

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has taken over management of Hotel La Jolla and is in the process of undergoing a full renovation with a new expanded lobby, pool area, meeting room space and restaurant. The San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina in downtown San Diego announced in May 2012 the launch of its new restaurant Marina Kitchen. As part of the hotel’s new renovations, Marina Kitchen’s design concept was created with the intention of accommodating group and leisure clientele in a multitude of dining configurations.

Marina Kitchen is an all-day dining venue specializing in modern comfort food and features a locally produced and seasonally fresh menu from the land and sea. HOTEL RENOVATIONS

In March 2012, the Bahia Resort Hotel on Mission Bay completed a $5 million renovation that updated the rooms at San Diego’s original beach resort. The project included complete bathroom remodels, including all new plumbing fixtures, lighted mirrors and custom mosaic tile backsplashes. Guest room renovations included new carpets, paint, wall coverings, slider doors, windows, furniture and complete kitchen remodels with new cabinetry, appliances and granite countertops in the suites. In June 2012, the W San Diego in downtown completed a $5 million renovation that includes a new lobby, signature restaurant, rooftop bar, spacious indoor and outdoor meeting facilities and event spaces. The lobby, referred to as the “Living Room,” includes vibrant colors in a lounge-like atmosphere. In April 2012, the historic Hotel Del Coronado on the “island” of Coronado completed an $8 million renovation of its 368 guestrooms and suites in its original 124-year-old Victorian building. As part of the new design, The Del unveiled Blue Octopus Family Suites which feature a newly-renovated master king bedroom and sitting parlor along with an ocean-inspired kid’s bedroom where an under-the-sea theme is carried through with ocean-blue carpet, linens and playful artwork.

The furniture includes bunk beds (single on top, double on bottom with a trundle), bean bag chairs, a toy chest filled with items from The Del’s new Blue Octopus toy store and a large-screen TV with Wii system.
