How did this pub get its name? How long has it been here? Has anyone ever been murdered here? Sydney Pub Tours answers all these questions and more.
Sydney Pub Tours is launching a new guided tour of some of Sydney’s most popular and historic pubs. Tours run Monday to Friday nights from 6pm to 9:30pm. Participants will receive a complimentary drink at each pub (5 in total) and gourmet pizzas for dinner at the 2nd pub, all whilst learning the history and local legends of each stop and the surrounding area. The only pub tour in Sydney to include dinner and drinks, this all inclusive tour is $125 per person. Just in time for Christmas, Gift Certificates are available online via the website www.sydneypubtours.com
If you ask most Aussie’s to tell you about their favourite pub, they’ll know its name, where it is, and that it serves alcohol. That’s about it. Oh….maybe it has a pool table. On Sydney Pub Tours, participants will visit Australia’s Longest Running Irish Pub, Sydney’s Oldest Hotel, and 3 pubs correctly claiming to be, Sydney’s Oldest Pub. They will visit the underground tunnel used for Rum Smuggling and Shanghaiing sailors, and see where a local bookie was murdered for drinking at the wrong pub. They’ll hear why Australia’s only military uprising was because of alcohol, how the Bubonic Plague affected the ‘taste of the beer’, and how the locals protested to save their pub, but lost their homes.
Private, Group and Corporate tours (including team building) are available. This is a walking tour, with the average distance between pubs being 600m including staircases, and tours run in all weather conditions (it’s dry in the pubs). This is not a ‘pub crawl’ or party tour. All participants must be able to provide photo I.D. (+18yrs). Online or phone bookings are essential.
Sydney Pub Tours is a new venture by local tour guide Gary West. Gary has over 15 years experience as a tour guide, traveling and guiding people all around Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
