Lufthansa new family counters at Frankfurt and Munich

In time for the start of the school summer holidays Lufthansa is opening new family counters at its two hub airports, Frankfurt and Munich. Under the slogan “Your little ones are our big priority”, parents and children up to the age of 12 will be able to identify where to get their boarding passes and check in their baggage — even from a distance.

Our two little mascots, LU and Cosmo, stand at the large gate of the new Lufthansa family counter to welcome all passengers — big and small. The red carpet is laid out to greet them and the antics of the two crane chicks are also shown on the monitors. Here even the cuddly toys and dolls that the children are taking on holiday with them receive their own boarding pass! And to ensure that boredom doesn’t set in after check-in either, our brochure ‘The Family Pilot’ is available on the counter. It offers parents valuable tips on the location of children’s play areas, child-friendly restaurants and the nearest viewing terrace as well as on baby changing rooms and pharmacies.

The family counter at Frankfurt Airport is located in Departure Hall B at counters 336-338 and in Munich at counters 422-423. Naturally families also have the option of conveniently printing out their own boarding passes from 23 hours before departure online from home or having the passes sent to their mobile phones and, if their departure is from Frankfurt, Munich or Hamburg, checking in their bags at the new self-service baggage machines.

Generally families with children enjoy plenty of benefits when they fly with Lufthansa, such as pre-boarding at the gate, for example, whereby they can board before any of the other passengers. Another privilege offered by Lufthansa: a promise that families will be able to sit together on long-haul flights. To this end it is recommended that seats are reserved at the same time as the flights are booked. On board a selection of delicious children’s menus await our young passengers. These can be booked up to 24 hours before departure directly through your travel agency or conveniently online via ‘login > My Booking’ on www.lufthansa.com.

To coincide with the cinema release of Disney’s latest animated movie ‘Planes’, special children’s menus will be served from 1 August. On long-haul flights, the children’s in-flight entertainment channel, ‘KidsFun’, will round off the Lufthansa travel experience with exciting films and music programmes. And completely new this summer in First and Business Class on long-haul flights: an amenity kit for children in the shape of a pilot case.

This year also sees the return of the popular ‘logbook’, in which every flight event is initialled by a crew member. When the logbook is full, the child is awarded a Junior Pilot’s Certificate by the Lufthansa chief pilot, which often makes the flight the first highlight of the holiday! Young passengers who are especially enthusiastic about aircraft and who love flying and travelling, can join JetFriends, the Lufthansa club for kids and teens, at jetfriends.com/jetfriends2/. But that is by no means all! We have compiled detailed information for you on the topic of ‘Children & Families’ at www.lufthansa.com/family.
