First 100 to book will save £100 off the full price of Ireland rail odyssey
Just Go Holidays (03332 342125; www.justgoholidays.com), a leading provider of group tours and holidays in the UK, has launched three new steam train breaks for 2018, including rides on Royal Scot and Tornado and a trip around Ireland’s historic railways.
1 Tornado Locomotive breaks
Three new journeys on a steam train pulled by the legendary No. 60163 locomotive Tornado are now available to book. The trips, which all take place on scenic railways within Yorkshire and the East of England, include:
Tornado Steam Train – North Yorkshire Moors Railway: a two-day break, including the 75-minute train trip through the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, from Grosmont to Pickering and back, with time to look around the heritage-themed stations. Price £130 per person, based on two sharing, including return coach travel from multiple pick-up points, a night’s dinner, bed and breakfast at a selected hotel, and the train ride.
Tornado Steam Train – North Yorkshire Moors Railway & York: a three-day holiday, featuring the same trip as above with the addition of a trip to York, where attractions include the Minster, the cobbled streets of the Shambles and the city walls. Price £195 per person, based on two sharing, including return coach travel from multiple pick-up points, two nights’ dinner, bed and breakfast at a selected hotel, trip to York and the train journey.
2 The Royal Scot on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway
The highlight of The Royal Scot Steam Train & The Railway Children will be a ride behind one of the world’s greatest steam engines, Royal Scot, which will be puffing its way along the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway for a limited time in June. Built in 1927 and retired in 1962, this popular engine returned to work in 2015 after a major overhaul. On the first leg of the approximate 80-minute trip, from either Oxenhope or Haworth to Keighley, the passenger carriages will be pulled by one of the local collection of locos. Royal Scot will link up at Keighley for a glorious return journey, passing through the wild and rugged moors of Brontë country on a nostalgic route that appeared in the iconic 1970s’ film The Railway Children. Price £140 per person, based on two sharing, including return coach travel from multiple pick-up points, one night’s dinner, bed and breakfast in an en-suite room at a selected hotel, and the train journey.
3 Southern Ireland Steam Train Adventure
The first 100 people to book the new eight-day tour Southern Ireland Steam Train Adventure are being offered a saving of £100 per person on the full price of £1,350. This delightful rail odyssey around the Emerald Isle, which has just one departure date, 2 September 2018, departs Dublin to call by Killarney and Westport before returning to the capital. Created in association with the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland, the trip includes three journeys by heritage steam train, interspersed with free days and optional excursions to explore more of the country. Price: from £1,350 per person, based on two sharing, including return travel from the UK by coach and ferry, seven nights’ full board, three journeys by heritage steam train and a tour manager in destination. There is an option to travel to Ireland by air, from £1,450 per person, but this is excluded from the offer.
Just Go! offers hundreds of pick-up points up and down the country for coach travellers and the Club Class Home Collection service, starting from £90 per person, can take care of the arrangements from door to door on many trips. It has also created a “Single Traveller” collection of holidays to a range of destinations in the UK, Ireland and Europe, where guests travel with other solo travellers and have no supplement to pay.
Just Go! Holidays is part of the JG Travel Group (JGTG), which focuses on bringing the freedom of travel to more than 130,000 older people across the UK each year. The group exists to make travel easy, affordable and fun by offering to take care of the arrangements from door to door. All brands
within the group seek to innovate and provide inspiration through an interesting and engaging range of value-for-money tours, from short breaks and classic seaside-resort holidays to heritage tours, events
and European escapes.
As the only recognised travel partner of the Historic Houses Association, JGTG supports Britain’s heritage and uses this knowledge to inspire travellers from the US to explore the history of the UK, Ireland and Islands under the Albion Journeys brand. The new group has a turnover of more than £35 million.
JGTG also supports Mary’s Meals, a UK-based charity with the vision that every child receives one daily meal at their place of education. The charity works in 14 underdeveloped countries across the world.
JGTG was founded in 1996 as The Coach Holiday Warehouse, becoming Just Go! Holidays from 2011,
and JGTG in September 2017. Since 2016 it has been backed by Kings Park Capital, a private equity firm specialising in investments in the leisure sector.
