With the growing popularity of travellers to the Himalaya and the upcoming royal visit to Pakistan in autumn 2019, KE Adventure Travel is delighted to announce three brand new adventures for 2020.
Pakistan – Nanga Parbat and the Hunza Valley Trek
It is 35 years since the first KE groups travelled to the Karakoram and our classic K2 and Concordia and K2 and the Gondogoro La treks continue to be popular. For those of our clients looking to experience the best of northern Pakistan with rather less of a trekking challenge we have put together this new 2-week Nanga Parbat and the Hunza Valley Trek.
At the extreme western end of the great Himalayan chain, Nanga Parbat (8126m) is one of the world’s most striking and, at the same time, most accessible mountains. Within the first week of the holiday we fly to Gilgit, drive to Fairy Meadows and trek in 2 short stages to the foot of Nanga Parbat where the mountain scenery is a match for anything that the Himalayas or Karakoram can offer. We then turn our attention to the famously beautiful Hunza Valley, where we visit the old capital of Karimabad and its Baltit Fort, trek for a day on the Bualtar and Barpu glaciers, take a tour up to Chinese border at the Khunjerab Pass and cruise across newly-formed Attabad Lake in a colourful ferry boat. This holiday includes all meals, national park permits, an experienced professional KE western leader, all land transport, internal flights and International airport transfers.
Nanga Parbat and the Hunza Valley Trek is the perfect holiday for anyone looking to experience the mountain magic of Northern Pakistan without the commitment of a long and challenging trek. Prices start from £1995 land only and £2635 including flights. British Airways currently offers direct flights to Islamabad.

India – Peaks and Passes of the Nubra Valley
North of the Indian Himalaya, the high and wild Buddhist region of Ladakh is one of the world’s great summer trekking destinations. As an addition to our long-established Markha Valley and Stok Kangri itineraries in this region, we are excited to be able to offer this new trek and climb holiday which starts out north of the Ladakhi capital of Leh in the fascinating and little known Nubra Valley.
Crossing the Khardung La into this remote and previously off-limits valley, we visit 14th century Diskit Monastery and explore a spectacular sand-dune landscape home to double-humped Bactrian camels before setting off on trek. Our route takes us across the Ladakh Range on seldom-used trails and by way of isolated villages and rugged gorges to a high camp in the Palzampiu Valley. From here, we trek to the summits of the glaciated and non-technical Samgyal Peak (5814m) and Dawa Peak (5900m); each of them commanding views across to the Eastern Karakoram. The continuation of our trek then takes us across the Lasermo La and back to Leh. Cut off from the outside world by high passes, this is a unique and very special part of the Indian Himalaya and you can be amongst the first to experience it. This holiday includes all meals, national park permits, an experienced and professional team of guides and trek crew, all land transport, internal flights and International airport transfers.
Peaks and Passes of the Nubra Valley is a super new trek and climb combination in the ever-popular Indian region of Ladakh, sandwiched between the Indian Himalaya and the Eastern Karakoram. Prices start from £1895 land only and £2395 including flights. There is a wide choice of airlines offering flights to Delhi.

Pakistan – Hushe to Hunza Mountain Bike
This challenging 15-day adventure-cycling holiday, makes a high-level journey across Gilgit-Baltistan on a mix of surfaced and unsurfaced roads. With 9 days on the bike and an average of 60 kilometres cycling on each of those days, this is a trip for experienced cyclists with a thirst for adventure. Starting out from Skardu, gateway to K2, the second biggest peak on Earth, you’ll follow the Indus River to Khaplu and then up to Hushe, which has a special place in the history of KE. Four days in the high valleys of Baltistan will prepare you for the tough climb up onto the unspoiled reserve area of the Deosai Plain. Home to endangered animal species including the Himalayan brown bear , you’ll spend 3 nights camping in this National Park, including the idyllic stop-over at Sheosar Lake with stunning views of the 8000-metre peak, Nanga Parbat.
From there you head up into the Hunza valley enclosed by mountains and glaciers and home to the reputedly long-lived Burusho people. Two days of cycling on and off the Karakoram Highway will give you a real taste of this special place. Clients stay in a variety of accommodation, from good standard hotels in Islamabad, tourist standard hotels in Khaplu, Skardu, Gilgit, Passu and Karimabad and 3 nights camping in 2-person tents whilst crossing the Deosai Plain. This holiday includes all meals, national park permits, an experienced professional KE western leader, all land transport, internal flights and International airport transfers.
KE Product Manager Kit Wilkinson says – “It’s really exciting to be returning to northern Pakistan with our bikes. Starting out from Hushe Village, this classic on-road, off-road journey shows off many of the highlights of unspoiled Gilgit-Baltistan, as we cycle up onto the Deosai Plain, skirt beneath Nanga Parbat, the 9th highest peak on Earth, and explore the famously beautiful Hunza Valley on 2 wheels. Adventure cycling doesn’t get any better than this!”
Prices start from £2095 land only and £2665 including flights. British Airways currently offers direct flights to Islamabad.
