Amtrak is reaching out to the community.
Under its new program, the California Everyday Discounts program, the rail company will offer seniors, students and passengers with disabilities year-round savings on train travel along the Pacific Surfliner route. The program was developed in conjunction with the state’s two other intercity rail services.
The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner service connects nearly three million passengers a year to the top Southern California destinations, including San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo.
“We are committed to enhancing the connectivity of the communities we serve and are excited to launch the California Everyday Discounts program to help make passenger rail service as accessible as possible,” service chairman Bryan MacDonald said in a statement. “While it’s important for us to increase ridership and improve farebox cost recovery for our service, we are proud to be able to maintain the best possible fares for our passengers who have come to rely on these discounts.”
