Emirates has won Airline of the Year in the Annual SkytraxAward presented at the 2013 Paris Air Show.

“We congratulate Emirates in what has been fantastic year of success for them, and the World’s Best Airline award is clear reflection that they are satisfying their customers,” said Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax in a statement. “These awards are decided by travellers and represent a most important attribute to an airline, because they are the Passenger’s Choice. Emirates score a major achievement with their repeated success as winner of the Best Inflight Entertainment award, demonstrating global leadership in onboard entertainment standards for yet another year.”

In addition to taking top honors, Emirates also won Best Middle Eastern Airline and Best Inflight Entertainment.  Qatar Airways took the number two spot followed by Singapore Airlines, 3; ANA All Nippon Airways, 4; Asiana Airlines, 5; Cathay Pacific, 6; Etihad Airways, 7; Turkish Airlines, 9 and Qantas Airways, 10.

Although U.S. carriers were nowhere near the top ten, Virgin America got the highest global rating of any U.S. carrier, taking the 27th slot. Delta (No. 45) and JetBlue (No. 46) were the next American airlines on the list.  American Airlines came in at 81 (it was 84 last year) and partner-to-be, US Airways at 97 (126 in 2012). Air Canada took Best Airline in North America.  Air Asia grabbed the top spot as Best Low Cost Carrier (Virgin America was number 3 in the category).
