Budget carrier Spirit Airlines is rolling out the option of booking seats via WhatsApp text messaging starting on September 1.
The service, powered by commerce tech provider LivePerson, will be available in English and Spanish.
Travelers interact with a chatbot for the initial booking inquiry before a Spirit agent takes over.
They will then be sent a link to complete the booking.
“We launched this service to better connect with our guests, both domestically and abroad, as many have told us that they would rather communicate on a familiar and convenient service like WhatsApp,” said Bobby Schroeter, sales & marketing VP at Spirit Airlines.
The new texting and messaging solution also enables guests to modify their travel plans and ask questions with immediate access to a live customer service agent if required.
It includes seeking travel update information and adding checked baggage to a reservation.
“We know WhatsApp is incredibly popular in the United States, but also in the more than two dozen destinations we serve in the Caribbean and Latin America,” said Schroeter.
