Turkish Airlines has launched a “Troia” themed aircraft to support “The Year of Troia,” a 2018 program announced by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism to coincide with the archaeological sites’ 20th anniversary admission to the UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage List. The global carrier, flying to more countries than any other airline, specially designed its A321-type aircraft with a livery of the Trojan horse image.
This Turkish Airlines aircraft, which will contribute to the promotion of “The Year of Troia” through its worldwide flights, was introduced last week with a special event in the new hangar of Turkish Technic Inc.
“As the flag carrier airline of Turkey, we place great importance on promoting our country and its values. The Trojan, which dates back to 3000 BC, is one of the most unique civilizations of Anatolia with a history that was the subject of many epics. We’re honored to contribute to the introduction of “The Year of Troia” with our themed aircraft at many worldwide destinations that we serve. We’re inviting the global community to see Troia,” as well as our fascinating country, which hosts many more epics in its rich history,” said M. Ilker Aycı, Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee, during his speech at the launch ceremony.
“Troia, which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1998, is one of the most important ancient buildings in the world. The protection of this magnificent archaeological value, which constitutes one of the most fundamental building blocks of this unique geography that we live on, will continue with the conscious approach of us and our future generations. I would like to thank Turkish Airlines for making a great contribution through the promotion of Troia at the worldwide destinations reached by this aircraft, specially designed with the “Troia” theme after our Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced 2018 as “The Troian Year,” said Orhan Tavlı, the Governor of Canakkale Province, in his speech.
Located near the village of Tevfikiye in the province of Canakkale, Troia is one of the most famous ancient cities in the world. Anatolia has always played a very important role in terms of commercial and cultural connections with other regions due to its unique location on the geography of the Aegean and Balkans. Troia, which had been destroyed and rebuilt nine times for various reasons, is regarded as a reference for other archaeological sites both in Europe and Aegean with its 3,000 year history and excavations are still being carried out in this magnificent archaeological city.
