After a pilot program last winter, United Airlines has rolled out a tool it says will significantly cut down on missed connections.
ConnectionSaver sends personal text messages to transit passengers with little time to spare to make a connecting flight.
It provides directions to their departure gate and the approximate time it takes to get there.
In addition passengers get a searchable map of nearby amenities to make better use of their limited time in a connecting airport.
“With summer travel picking up, as many as 150,000 customers will make connections on United flights every day and our goal is to provide our employees and these customers with the most up-to-date information,” said United chief customer officer, Toby Enqvist.
The tool was piloted in its Denver and Chicago hubs over the winter and United says it has so far assisted 14,400 customers who would normally have missed connecting flights.
Flights were held for an average six minutes waiting for transiting passengers.
United says it will be an essential tool to help more travelers get to the right gate hassle-free with the busy summer season coming up.
