United Airlines will start summer seasonal flights linking Fairbanks in Alaska with its San Francisco hub.
Nonstop summer service will operate three times a week from June 6 through August 18, 2019.
The route was secured in part thanks to the award of a Small Community Air Service Development Program grant of $750,000.
This is awarded to improve air service to remote areas by luring carriers by underwriting revenue guarantees for a set period.
“We look forward to working with United, tourism businesses and the community of Fairbanks to make these flights successful,” said Deb Hickok, president and CEO of Explore Fairbanks.
“This schedule combined with already-existing flights should result in increased visitation to Interior Alaska.”
Janet Lamkin, United’s president for California said: “This new service connecting to Fairbanks will bring thousands of tourists from all over the Lower 48. We look forward to working with our partners in Fairbanks to ensure these flights are a success.”
