New trip alert from Butterfield & Robinson! Trading our bikes for deck shoes, we’ll be setting sail to Bermuda for a week of exploring, cruising and cheering at Bermuda’s 35th America’s Cup, a competition steeped in history. As the world’s best sailors compete for yachting’s biggest prize, B&R travellers will join a seasoned skipper out in the Great Sound to watch as the Defender and the Challenger go head-to-head.
Beyond the screaming 50 ft. catamarans almost flying by, the collection of volcanic islands that make up Bermuda have much to offer. Travellers will view the race aboard a 61 ft. privately chartered boat, visit the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art for a fascinating look at life in Bermuda, explore the territory’s collection of islands by boat and by foot, and top off the week with a private dinner hosted at George Butterfield’s family home.
“The choice of Bermuda as host is an inspired one, as the region’s relationship with the sea is strong, even by island standards,” says Trip Designer Jonathan Lansdell. “This, coupled with George’s strong connection to the isle, allows us to deliver a very personal experience in what promises to be an exhilarating America’s Cup race.”
Bermuda America’s Cup runs from June 23-28, 2017 (from US$8,495 per person). Travellers stay at the luxurious Fairmont Southampton, perched on Bermuda’s stunning south shore surrounded by miles of pink sand beaches.
