In addition to its white sandy beaches, colourful coral reefs and clear blue skies, Samoa has a full calendar of annual events to look forward to in 2017!
2017 will see the second edition of the Savaii Games. Taking place from 4th to the 8th of April, the games will include disciplines such as the Upolu-to-Savaii Swim – a 22.3 km distance between Samoa’s two main islands , a 1-day cycling race covering 180 km around the island as well as the Savaii Marathon, a 42km run between Sale’aula Lava Fields and Salelologa.
The Five Islands Swim held between 10 and 13 May 2017 is a series of five challenging open water swims in four days. The competitors will cover a total distance of 27 km between five of Samoa’s ten islands: Manono, Fanuatapu, Namu’a, Nu’usafe’e and Matautu. Swimmers will glide over coral reefs and amongst spectacular fish in water temperatures of between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius.
Making sporting history, Samoa will host its first Investec Super Rugby Championship match on 2nd June 2017 when the match between the Auckland Blues vs Queensland Reds will be played under lights at the Apia Park Stadium in the nation’s capital. Ticket enquiries can be made with the Experience Group
Samoa’s Warrior Race is the only Half Ironman contest in the South Pacific. Taking place on 29th July 2017 the race is not for the faint hearted as it is made particularly tough by the hot weather. A shorter version of the race fittingly called Beat the Heat is also available.
The idea of Samoa Swim Series is very simple: 3 swims in 3 days! This great event will start on 3rd August 2017, giving swimmers of all ages the chance to compete in a variety of open-water races. The race distances vary between 500m and 10km for different age groups with prizes for the winners and medals for all finishers.
