The inaugural edition of The Miele Guide, Asia’s first truly independent and authoritative restaurant guide will launch on 31 October 2008 at a star-studded dinner held in Singapore. The 2008/2009 edition of this new annual guide will then be available at major bookstores throughout Asia on 1 November 2008.

Written by expert food lovers who know and love Asia, this 2008/2009 edition will be the first restaurant guide to measure the best restaurants in the region by Asian standards. At the same time, as it sets new benchmarks in the Asian culinary sphere, the very best restaurants in Asia will fittingly be given the credence due to them with the launch of the Guide.

Starting with this first edition, The Miele Guide will annually publish a list of Asia’s 20 best restaurants. These restaurants will be numerically ranked and profiled in-depth. In addition, the Guide will list the other 300 best restaurants from across the region, categorised by country, city and cuisine. This first edition evaluates restaurants in 16 Asian countries—Brunei, Cambodia, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

The 2008/2009 edition and this year’s list of Top 20 Restaurants will be unveiled at The Miele Guide Dinner, a chic gala event hosted at the Grand Hyatt Singapore on 31 October 2008. The Dinner will be attended by approximately 350 guests, comprising of a veritable who’s who of Asia’s F&B scene. All chefs and restaurateurs whose establishments have been methodically selected to be in the 2008/2009 edition have been invited.

“The overarching goal of The Miele Guide is to help the restaurant industry in Asia grow. We hope that by recognising Asia’s best, the industry will continue to flourish and develop. It is also our hope to create awareness internationally that we have amazing dining here in Asia,” says Tan Su-Lyn, Director of Ate Media, the Singapore-based media firm publishing the guide, and one of Southeast Asia’s most established food writers.

“We are proud to be part of this landmark move to recognise the Asian dining scene,” Mario Miranda, Managing Director of Miele Pte Ltd says. “Miele’s sponsorship of The Miele Guide reflects our dedication to helping to encourage and support the food and wine industry in this region. We are equally committed to promoting the enjoyment and understanding of good food among the people of this diverse region.”

Pauline Ooi, The Miele Guide’s Associate Publisher, says, “We are very much looking forward to the launch of The Miele Guide. The dinner will be an exciting night of honouring Asia’s brightest culinary stars. We’re thrilled that many of the region’s culinary luminaries have already responded that they will be in attendance. This, we hope, will become the must-attend event for the region’s best chefs and restaurateurs year after year.”

The Miele Guide is published by Ate Media Pte Ltd and sponsored by Miele, a German manufacturer of premium and innovative cooking appliances for the home. While a naming sponsor of the Guide,
Miele did not exert any influence over the selection and judging process that determined which restaurants appear in The Miele Guide.

Further underlining its independence, neither the Guide nor its contributors accepted any advertising, sponsorship or free meals from any of the restaurants reviewed.

The slim, elegant and affordable Guide, which will retail at US$15, will be for every traveller, foodie and business person looking to dine in Asia.

Peregrine Adventures has expanded its South East Asia programme for 2009 to include a new Heritage Vietnam & Cambodia tour focussing on no less than 5 UNESCO World Heritage sites, plus a Thailand Discovery itinerary offering the perfect balance between adventure and beach relaxation…

Heritage Vietnam & Cambodia: 14 days - next departing Saigon 7th December 08 (other 08-10 dates available)

Experience the historical and cultural heritage of Vietnam and Cambodia, a pocket of Asia originally part of the former French Indochina, packed to the rafters with old world charm. Equally as evocative are the oriental influences stemming from a historic mix of Asian traders, settlers and indigenous people. In Vietnam, visit the economic capital of Saigon, and Hanoi, one of South East Asia’s most beguiling cities. Explore the World Heritage sites of Hoi An - once a major trading port, My Son sanctuary – a large complex of temple remains dating from the Cham Dynasty, Hue - the old Imperial capital set on the banks of the Perfume River, and Halong Bay - one of the country’s most spectacular natural wonders. In Cambodia, head for Siem Reap, gateway to the Temples of Angkor (World Heritage), the country’s spiritual and cultural heartbeat, containing the splendid remains of the ancient Khmer Empire dating back to the 9th century.

The tour costs £1,125 p/p including Peregrine’s tour leader, professional local guides, three local flights, arrival transfer, all transportation, all accommodation with breakfast, some lunches and dinners, plus sightseeing and entrance fees as per itinerary. International flights are not included.

Thailand Discovery: 17 days – next departing Bangkok 20th December 08 (09-10 dates also available)

A new tour combining adventurous exploration with some R&R on Thailand’s palm-fringed beaches. Bangkok offers frenetic energy amidst tranquil parks and regal temples.

Kanchanaburi, site of the infamous Bridge over the River Kwai, uncovers a more recent sobering history. The ancient capitals of Ayuthaya and Sukhothai showcase the country’s proud heritage with Buddha images and temples standing as sentinels to the passage of time.

Northern Thailand is renowned for its ethnic diversity, due to the multitude of hill tribe people who have migrated over the centuries from southern China.

Their distinctive colourful clothing and handicrafts can been seen in the famous Night Bazaar of Chiang Mai and during an elephant trek through some of the hill tribe villages around Chiang Dao. Thailand’s pleasure playground is its south, where the warm waters of the Andaman Sea lap the palm-fringed golden beaches. Here, limestone rock formations add a dramatic feature, making southern Thailand one of the most spectacular regions in South East Asia.

The tour costs £1,325 p/p including Peregrine’s tour leader, professional local guides, local flight, arrival transfer, all transportation, all accommodation with breakfast, some lunches/dinners, sightseeing and entrance fees as per itinerary, plus a rice barge cruise. International flights are not included.

At the heart of the Preferred Boutique experience is inspiration, that elusive characteristic that sifts the extraordinary from the ordinary. The four Preferred Boutique categories - Classic, Design, Adventure and Resort – encompass eclectic properties from palaces to tent camps, from hip urban hotels to private islands. Gayana Eco Resort is part of the Resort and Adventure category.

Recently reopened after major renovation in July, Gayana Eco Resort is located in the wilderness of Gaya Island, just 10 minutes boat ride from the city of Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, East Malaysia. True to its name, the resort – as it is on the largest of the five coral reef islands that make up the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park - is dedicated to conserving its marine life with a Marine Ecology Research Centre on site. Guests can participate in its coral regeneration programme and learn about its efforts in the propagation of giant clams, having spawned seven out of the world’s eight giant clams.

With its prime location on pristine waters, the 44 over water luxury villas feature balconies in which to enjoy the view. Some of the villas also offer direct steps into the lagoon to cool off and access to the special breakfast boat to deliver breakfast to your balcony. Three restaurants and bar offer the ideal island atmosphere with spectacular views of the jungle and ocean. The seafood is a speciality and cultivated in the hotel’s own sea farm. Guests can relax in the infinity pool overlooking Malohom Bay or indulge in a traditional Borneo Urut massage. Adventure seekers can dive at the hotel’s dive centre, take guided kayak trips through mangrove forests or see the wildlife in the jungle trek.

<img class="alignleft" src="http://www.awltovhc.com/nm97m-3sywHJNIIJIRHJIMPOMPM" border="0" alt="Top Skate & Surf Brands at Pacsun. Gayana is a great addition to the brand,” said Lynne Ireland, Managing Director - Preferred Boutique.

“The fast growing resort destination of Kota Kinabalu is an ideal location to add to the Preferred Hotel Group portfolio and Gayana Eco Resort is a great example of how resorts can provide luxury with an eco theme,” said Mark Simmons, Managing Director - Asia.

“Gayana Eco Resort offers guests unrivalled 5-star quality in a unique eco-adventure, tropical island setting. As a Preferred Boutique property, we are confident that our branding exercise will reach its target markets.

Our partnership with the Preferred Hotel Group is therefore an exciting beginning to our overall vision in becoming Asia’s No.1 eco resort,” said Nilakrisna James, spokesperson and PR Consultant for Gayana Eco Resort
