JOIN WORLD’S BEST FREEDIVER AS HUMPBACK WHALES MIGRATE PAST THE RESORT

From January 22-29, during the peak whale-migration season in the Caribbean in 2009, Tanya Streeter, who has set ten world records for freediving (diving without the aid of an aquatic-breathing apparatus), will be in residence at the Amanyara resort in the Turks and Caicos Islands and sharing her knowledge with guests.

Amanyara will offer gentle stretching and breathing classes in which Tanya Streeter will teach the breathing techniques that helped her achieve her deep dives (her personal breath-holding best is almost six-and-a-half minutes!). She will also lead private sessions in the open sea, including snorkeling tours and freediving lessons in Amanyara Bay and scuba diving sessions without any gear of her own (freediving “mermaid-style” around participants at depths of more than 50 feet). On dry land, she will host several short presentations and film screenings of her documentary “Diving with Whales” and will be available to chat informally with guests over cocktails.

Amanyara is located on the Turks and Caicos Island of Providenciales, within easy reach of most North American gateways, and features 40 timber-shingled pavilions, either overlooking tranquil ponds or nestled along the oceanfront, and several private villas alongside the resort that are available for rent or purchase. In addition to a library, bar and restaurant, Amanyara also offers a Beach Club and Serenity Villa, so for those not wishing to get wet, there are many elegant and relaxing vantage points from which to watch the whales frolicking.

Amanresorts was founded by Adrian Zecha, who envisioned a collection of intimate retreats in beautiful surroundings with the unassuming, warm, hospitality of a gracious private residence.

The first resort, Amanpuri (Place of Peace) in Phuket, Thailand, introduced the concept and since then, Amanresorts has grown to encompass 19 resorts located in Bhutan, Cambodia, China, France, French Polynesia, Indonesia, India, Morocco, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Turks & Caicos Islands and the USA.
