Trinidad and Tobago Eyes Medical Tourism
Minister of Tourism Dr. Rupert Griffith has put medical tourism on Trinidad and Tobago’s agenda. Discussions were held in late June between the Ministry of Tourism and Kishor Joshi, Deputy General Manager International Business, of Fortis Healthcare Limited, one of the largest private healthcare providers in India.
This is one of several new initiatives that has resulted from January’s successful Mission to India.
Discussions centered on partnerships between Fortis Healthcare and local private and public sector healthcare institutions, with the underlying aim of fostering a viable medical tourism industry in Trinidad and Tobago.
As one of the fastest growing segments of the global tourism trade, medical tourism is viewed as having sound potential as a contributor to economic diversification and foreign investment in Trinidad and Tobago, while simultaneously developing the local healthcare infrastructure.
