Australian Soft Rock Duo Air Supply Returns to The Orleans Showroom
During Memorial Day Weekend, May 23-25
Las Vegas—Air Supply, a staple of early ‘80s radio, is returning to The Orleans Showroom for three shows May 23, 24 and 25.
Englishman Graham Russell and Australian Russell Hitchcock met in 1975 while performing in the Australian production of “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Later that year, the duo formed Air Supply and released their first smash hit and self-titled debut album, reaching gold in Australia. After opening for Rod Stewart’s tour in the United States in the late ‘70s, Air Supply had an international breakthrough and signed a distribution deal with Artista Records in 1980.
Their album, “Lost in Love,” featured three U.S. Top 5 singles, including the title track, which was the fastest-selling single in the world; “Every Woman in the World”; and “All Out of Love.” Over the next three years, Air Supply produced hit after hit, including “Just Another Woman,” “The One That You Love,” “Here I Am,” “Sweet Dreams,” “Even The Nights Are Better” and “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All,” which reached #2 on the Billboard charts in 1983.They released “Mumbo Jumbo” in May 2010, and the single “Sanctuary” was released in December 2011.

LAS VEGAS – Carson Kitchen will combine the innovative cuisine of the city’s first true local, celebrity chef, Kerry Simon, with the hipster vibe of Downtown Las Vegas when it opens on the corner of 6th Street and Carson Avenue at South 124 6th St. in early June.
“I have long wanted to open a true neighborhood restaurant and as Downtown Las Vegas is now the social center for locals, it is the perfect spot for this concept,” says Simon. “I want this restaurant to feel like dinners I’ve prepared for friends in my own home, and I have developed the menu and design with those friends in mind.”
A new American gastro-lounge, Carson Kitchen artfully celebrates food and drink through an ingredient-driven menu that provides innovative flavors for guests through progressive, yet approachable selections. True to his signature style, Simon elevates classics with contemporary flavors, from “Devil’s Eggs,” made with crispy pancetta and caviar, to a cocoa-espresso NY strip steak served with red wine demi. Simon will also place an emphasis on sustainable ingredients, as well as locally sourced produce.
Carson Kitchen was developed in partnership with hospitality veteran, Cory Harwell, who relocated to Las Vegas from New York in 1997 and has since had his hand in leading many high-level restaurants throughout the city. Harwell and Simon are working alongside Tony Hsieh and the Downtown Project to embrace the developing culture of Fremont East and the local spirit of Las Vegas. Carson Kitchen is in the space formerly occupied by the John E. Carson Hotel, keeping much of the character and ‘bones’ of the original structure. The name was inspired by the John E. Carson Hotel itself, as well as pays tribute to The Mercer Kitchen in New York City by Simon’s mentor, Jean Georges-Vongerichten.
“Having lived in Las Vegas for so many years, I’m really excited about developing a restaurant that will primarily appeal to locals,” says Harwell. “Plus, creatively it has been a fun project for us, to develop a restaurant that from menu to design feels like being in someone’s home. The menu has that appeal of experimenting with different flavors in the kitchen, and it has presented an opportunity for us to be more playful with the dining experience.”
The 1,800-square-foot dining room will seat 90 guests with a design inspired by Simon’s own loft-style home in Las Vegas. The chef’s table is an experience in itself with a tabletop that borders the kitchen and doubles as an expo counter. The dining room has the feel of being welcomed into a homey, yet modern kitchen with the use of repurposed wood and steel materials. Carson Kitchen’s stone-oven gives the appearance of an old-school wood burning hearth, with the casing built for it outside of the restaurant. Twisted metal pieces run from floor-to-ceiling to separate the space into different areas, which provides a more intimate dining experience. The bar top counter ties into the kitchen being made out of the same material of an end-cut of a butcher’s block.
The 910-square-foot, garden-style rooftop patio will host live music, such as DJs and bands, offering a space to dine and enjoy a lush six-foot-tall living wall, a bar top made of funky granite and overall lively social scene.
The menu, which has an emphasis on sharing, includes social plates, sandwiches, entrées and stone-oven flatbreads. Social plates, priced from $6 to $10, include tempura green beans made with pepper jelly and cream cheese; bacon jam served with baked brie and toasted baguette; and “Devil’s Eggs” complete with crispy pancetta and caviar.
The “Between Bread” sandwich section, priced from $10 to $14, includes short rib sliders made with root beer glaze; grilled cheese with apple slices and caramelized onion; and a butter burger topped with Boursin and Taleggio cheeses, lettuce and tomato. Stone-oven flatbreads are priced from $8 to $10 and include duck confit made with black mission figs and gorgonzola cheese; merguez sausage topped with fennel, broccolini and ricotta cheese; and wild mushroom complemented with caramelized onions and Cabrales bleu cheese.
The sustainable selections from the farm and garden range from $8 to $14 and include rabbit ragu made with spaghetti squash and parmesan; kale & apple served with pancetta croutons and lemon vinaigrette; and black rice and oxtail risotto, made with a parmesan cream. Fresh fish selections, priced from $10 to $14, include steelhead trout cake served with mustard cream; swordfish topped with lemon, mint and basil; and mussels made with chorizo, saffron and fennel. Meats, priced from $14 to $18, include cocoa-espresso NY strip steak served with red wine demi; chicken roulade with chorizo and manchego cheeses; and roasted pork loin topped with apple cider glaze.
Desserts are highlighted by a bourbon fudge brownie served with brown butter bacon ice cream; glazed donut bread pudding made with three rum caramel and vanilla crème anglaise; and “Not Your Father’s” Twinkies.
The drink menu will feature more “mom and pop” style selections to support smaller businesses, such as Jones Soda, Virgil’s and Tommy Knockers. The cocktail menu will offer handcrafted selections with an urban masculine influence and will utilize organic spirit options from craft distilleries around the country. Selections include the “Old Wooden Shed,” made with No. 209 Gin, XTA Liqueur, fresh lemon and angostura bitters; and the “Brewers Fix,” made with Hophead Vodka, Bonne Maman Apricot Preserves, fresh lemon, simple syrup and Prosecco. For beer and wine, Carson Kitchen will have a diverse selection of small-batch American craft beers and wines from boutique vineyards around the country.

Las Vegas— Multi-talented entertainer and showman Earl Turner returns to the Suncoast Showroom performing “Earl Turner – Encore” May 3 and 4.
Turner began performing at the age of 13, and by age 19, he was traveling the country as a frontman with various show bands. As a solo artist, Turner scored a Top 40 dance hit in Europe in the mid-1980s with “Love Caught You By Surprise.”

In anticipation of Guy Fieri’s first Las Vegas restaurant, Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen & Bar at The Quad Resort & Casino, opening April 17, Fieri surprised guests by serving up his award-winning signature Bacon Mac-N-Cheese Burger to hundreds of excited fans.
Fieri arrived in style as he pulled up to The Quad in his classic red Camaro where he was greeted by fans and onlookers. Also on-hand to welcome Fieri was the marching band and cheerleaders from his alma mater, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). They belted the UNLV fight song as well as a rendition of “Viva Las Vegas”. He was then greeted by Regional President and General Manager, Eileen Moore, and Regional Vice President and Assistant General Manager, Christian Stuart
“There’s a new corner in Flavortown, and that’s The Quad Resort & Casino”, said Moore. Moore and Stuart presented Fieri with a proclamation from the City of Las Vegas and Mayor Carolyn Goodman, proclaiming April 4, 2014 Guy Fieri Day.
Fieri addressed the crowd and expressed his excitement of opening up his first Las Vegas restaurant, “It’s great to be back in Las Vegas”, exclaimed Fieri. “It has always been a dream of mine to open a restaurant here. It’s been a long road to get here, and this is the homecoming of homecomings. I promise you, Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen & Bar is gonna rock the house!”
Set to open April 17, Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen & Bar will offer guests a taste of Fieri’s signature cuisine, featuring bold flavours and unique twists on traditional dishes. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. for brunch, lunch, dinner and late night dining, the 200 seat restaurant will feature a delicious blend of casual foods including an extensive variety of burgers, wings, tacos, small bites and shareable food items.
The restaurant’s extensive drink menu will feature 16 craft beers, in addition to the Sonoma County wine selection and a frozen tap system shot bar that will create a one-of-a kind experience for guests. Instead of having shots strained or mixed with ice, which then run the risk of getting diluted, the frozen tap system bar will dispense eight different shots straight out of iced dispensers.
The 604 square metre space will feature a large outdoor patio and dining area to seat 200 patrons who will be able to enjoy the panoramic views of the Las Vegas Strip. The cooking space will encompass a metal, tile, and wood theme that closely resembles Fieri’s kitchen at home. Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen & Bar will feature an open design with wood and steel elements along with repurposed materials.
The restaurant is adjacent to the popular Carnaval Court and The Quad’s main entrance.
This dynamic partnership is just another example of the new restaurant, bar and lounge projects that are currently re-shaping many Caesars Entertainment Las Vegas resorts.

LAS VEGAS – Fremont Street Experience will host Celtic Fest to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Las Vegas Highland Games taking place at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs in northwest Las Vegas on April 12-13. To kick-off the celebration, Fremont Street Experience invites Las Vegas locals and visitors to celebrate with free Celtic entertainment on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12.
Each night at 8:15 p.m., The LA Scots pipe band will start the festivities by parading from Golden Nugget to the 1st Street Stage where they will perform. Los Angeles Scottish Pipe Band, popularly known as The LA Scots, is the premier pipe band of the United States and a world class competitor.
Live bands and entertainers will keep the party going throughout the night, headlined by 1916, Wicked Tinkers, Sharon Lynn’s Celtic Crown Dancers and Celtic Music from Golden Bough.
The Las Vegas Celtic Society began the annual Las Vegas Highland Games celebration 10 years ago to honor Celtic culture and tradition. Highland Games are a unique mix of sporting, cultural and social events and usually include field and track, piping and Highland dancing competitions, as well as ‘heavy events’ like tug-o-war, hammer throw and caber toss.

Urgent care has been offered in the United States for decades, but only recently has it started to spread across the nation.
The segment is projected to be an $18 billion industry by 2017, a 40 percent spike, according to Karin Chernoff Kaplan, principal of DGA Partners and a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association’s New Jersey Chapter.
It makes sense why urgent care is becoming more popular. Ideally, urgent care—or, same-day care for injuries that aren’t serious or life-threatening—is a happy medium for patients who don’t want to pay exorbitant prices for the emergency room but still need to be treated relatively quickly.
It also can be a happy medium for travelers, given more and more urgent care services are accommodating hotel guests on site.
Just to name a few U.S. urgent care services that meet guests at their hotel rooms, you have House Call Doctor Los Angeles, Las Vegas Strip Urgent Care, TravelMD.com (New York City), San Diego Housecall, Doctor Housecalls of Paradise Valley (Arizona), Chicago Express Doctors and the Miami Urgent Care Clinic.
There’s also Straub Clinic & Hospital, which has offices at Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Hotel and Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort in Honolulu.
The staff at Hilton Hawaiian Village has enjoyed having an on-site urgent care facility. In fact, Hilton Hawaiian has had its facility since the 1990s…so it’s a bit ahead of the curve.
“We have over 3,500 rooms on property so this is like a small town,” said Jerry Gibson, area vice president of Hilton Hawaii. “It’s always a good idea to have a medical facility. Personally, I think it’s a terrific idea.”
Gibson mentioned it being handy in case of life-threatening emergencies or when employees get sick. The Hilton Hawaiian team will even use it on their off time. And if a family catches the flu on the plane ride over to Honolulu, they can take care of it right when they get to the hotel…which is probably why the hotel gets compliments from guests all the time.
“I wouldn’t have a hotel anywhere without an urgent care service,” Gibson said.
In March, San Jose-based Action Urgent Care joined the movement, signing a long-term lease for an 8,480-square-foot space at Silver Creek Marketplace. The company doesn’t do house calls or hotel calls, but it is located next to two spas and massage parlors, Valley Nail Care & Spa and Foot Spa.
In late March, Fred Oliver, owner of the 118-suite Residence Inn by Marriott (July 2013 debut), submitted plans to the Carmel Valley Community Planning Board for a new hotel and urgent care facility (possibly Scripps) on some of the last vacant commercial lots off Carmel Valley Road and Valley Centre Drive.
Dr. Michael Farzam, founder and CEO of House Call Doctor Los Angeles, calls himself a “concierge house call doctor.” He services the Greater Los Angeles area, from Thousands Oaks to Hermosa Beach. That includes 24/7 care 365 days per week. HouseCallDoctorLa.com notes Dr. Farzam arrives at your house, hotel room or film set in one hour or less after confirmation. In places like bustling, bumper-to-bumper L.A., the fact that you don’t have to drive to receive Dr. Farzam’s services can be therapeutic enough.
And, as an April press release noted, you don’t need “a Four Seasons bank account” to afford House Call Doctor Los Angeles. In many cases, Dr. Farzam’s services are either completed covered by insurance or offered at a discounted rate.
And as the demand grows, more and more urgent care programs are emerging. The number of urgent care facilities has increased from 8,000 to 9,300 since 2008, according to the American Academy of Urgent Care Medicine (AAUCM).
Some doctors also see it as an easier way of doing business, as opposed to being a primary care physician.
“It is very difficult for an individual primary care physician to open a practice and be able to make it a going business,” said Dedham Medical CEO Roberta Zysman, via the Norwood Transcript and Bulletin (Mass.). “While some other urgent care centers might employ primary care physicians and family (practitioners), most new primary care physicians are going into practices within larger systems.”
Dr. Farzam added in a YouTube video, “I don’t have to be burdened by the red tape and insurance bureaucracies when it comes to making medical healthcare decisions.”
The Urgent Care Association of America (UCAOA) is also ramping up its efforts to accommodate the growing trend. The UCAOA, which includes nearly 6,400 individual and practice members and more than 2,615 clinics across the globe, announced on March 20 that it now offers a national accreditation and certification program for the urgent care industry.
Dr. Nate Newman, president of the UCAOA Board of Directors, said in a release:
“The urgent care industry is experiencing explosive growth and strong demand from consumers who want convenient, affordable and quality healthcare. There is tremendous merit in evaluating the industry and striving for higher quality and standards of care. This accreditation process solidifies and builds upon our commitment to delivering the highest quality care whenever a patient visits one of our certified and accredited centers.”
Of course, it’s not all smooth sailing for those in the urgent care industry. As Kaplan noted, the future of healthcare reform and alternate payment initiatives will affect house and hotel call physicians one way or the other. Also, whether patients can be directly moved from emergency rooms to urgent care centers will impact the industry as a whole. After all, that would help startups trying to get off the ground.
But, so far, the obstacles the urgent care industry currently deals with are mere bumps and bruises compared to the big picture.
