Florida is once again a major hotspot for New Year’s, boasting three cities among the 10 most popular destinations.
There are also some major cities that travelers can zip over to for relatively cheap (some may surprise you).
Where should you spend New Year’s this holiday season?
Here are some suggestions, courtesy of KAYAK.
Most Popular Destinations this New Year’s
Walt Disney World, Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Epcot Park and SeaWorld Orlando are consistently flocked to for New Year’s, and for good reason.
The theme parks put on tremendous fireworks shows and have enough entertainment to keep the wee ones captivated throughout the night and into the new year.
For the over-21 crowd, check out Orlando’s Wall Street Plaza this holiday season, a well known nightlife hub that sports renowned DJs and light shows.
The Church Street party features the “Orange Drop,” Orlando’s version of the NYC ball drop. There will also be a fireworks show and access to Church Street’s hotspots of Chillers, Big Belly Brewery and Latitudes.
There is plenty of music that will surely be playing throughout the city this New Year’s, as well as a variety of velvet-cordon events and festivities for all ages to keep people celebrating well after the ball drops.
Of course, not everyone is a party animal. If you want to take it easy this New Year’s with a loved one, Aventura Beach is a great spot for a picnic beneath fireworks.
3. New York City
New York City simply does the holidays right.
The Big Apple has long been a popular destination for New Year’s, and the light displays on the buildings throughout the city have to be seen to be believed.
Times Square is the epicenter of New Year’s in NYC, a once-in-a-lifetime experience that includes a 12,000-pound crystal ball and a 60-second fireworks show.
Another popular event is the NYRR Midnight Run, designed for those who take taking the next step in their lives seriously (if you catch my chilly drift). Plus, you can say you were literally traveling forward in your life right when 2015 began.
4. Las Vegas
It’s not exactly a surprise that Las Vegas is one of the top 10 New Year’s destinations this season.
If you want to party, Vegas is a natural choice, given its gambling, nightclubs, glitzy bars, shows and its ability to get guests drinking and dancing until the wee hours of the morning.
Add a riveting fireworks show that rivals some of the best in the country and you have yourself an ideal spot to ring in the new year.
Cancun has become synonymous with the words “party” and “Mexico” throughout the years.
Not only is Cancun a popular destination for spring and summer break, but it’s also a warmer location for New Year’s.
For New Year’s in Cancun, it’s actually a tradition to stay up all night to watch the first sunrise of the New Year. And given the clear blue waters and stunning natural scenery in the area, there are certainly worse places in the world to do so.
If you want to ease into the New Year away from all the crowds, take in the scene from your hotel balcony. One tradition is to eat one grape and make a wish at each of the 12 strokes of midnight. Of course, you’ll want to cap it off with some champagne.
6. Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale’s Downtown Countdown has become a popular event throughout the years.
One of the largest New Year’s celebrations in the Southeast, the free street festival is a great place to spend New Year’s with the family. The 11-hour extravaganza features bounce houses, face painting, games, contests, live music, line dancing and more. It’s expected to draw 100,000 people this year from 4 p.m. to 3 a.m.
A riverboat tour is a great option for those wanting to spend their first hours of the new year out on the water with a small group of revelers.
7. Los Angeles
Whether you want to check out a rooftop party at a fancy restaurant, grab a ticket for the VIP Club Crawl for access to the hottest nightclubs or jump aboard the Queen Mary for a night of dinner and live music on the water, there is no shortage of things to do (and celebrate) in L.A. during New Year’s.
Just make sure you get downtown early. The last thing you want to do is be looking for parking in a traffic jam as the ball drops.
8. San Juan
San Juan, Puerto Rico is a great alternative to Miami for those who seek a hoppin’ nightlife without the hefty prices.
San Juan has a similar vibe as Miami, centered around stylish hotels (and beautiful people), but you can also stay at fine hotels like the Conrad San Juan Condado Plaza for a fraction of the cost of fancy hotels in Miami.
In fact, the Condado district in general is a great place to be during New Year’s in San Juan. Complete with live music, dancing and delicious spirits, it’s a popular spot to ring in the new year.
If you are looking for fireworks, Condado Beach and the Puerto Rico Convention Center have grand fireworks displays at midnight.
While Denver isn’t exactly a warm destination to spend New Year’s, there’s a reason why it continues to show up on top 10 lists for the holidays: There is something for everyone here.
Not only does Colorado sport some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the country, but Denver is also one of the most family-friendly destinations you’ll find.
KAYAK suggests taking a daytime trip to the Butterfly Pavilion. Beyond the butterflies, the kids will love the endless supply of bubble wrap and confetti.
At night, gather around the 16th Street Mall, where the over-21 crowd can sip on some of the finest microbrews in the nation while watching the fireworks.
It’s not very hard to sell Honolulu.
I mean, you have great weather, tropical scenery and a laid-back atmosphere that can make you feel at ease in an instant.
Many New Year’s revelers spend the night watching fireworks over popular Waikiki Beach. The Aloha Tower is also a well-known gathering spot, complete with live Polynesian music and island-inspired cocktails.
Beyond that, the numerous hotels and restaurants in Honolulu hold parties to kick off the new year, as well as fireworks shows.
It may be a good idea to stay up through the night if you end up in Honolulu for New Year’s. The sunrises are spectacular.
Least Expensive Destinations this New Year’s
While Chicago is rather cold in the winter, it’s a great city and a major worldwide tourist attraction. The fact that it is the least expensive top destination for New Year’s in terms of airfare is a bit of a surprise.
Las Vegas and Denver—No. 4 and No. 9 on KAYAK’s top 10 list, respectively—are also among the 10 cheapest destinations for New Year’s. Expect these destinations to be swarming with partiers as the ball drops.
1. Chicago ($290)
2. Atlanta ($325)
3. Washington D.C. ($327)
4. Dallas ($341)
5. Boston ($356)
6. Denver ($376)
7. Austin ($378)
8. New Orleans ($391)
9. Houston ($393)
10. Las Vegas ($401)

The “integrated” facilities — hotels and resorts featuring large casinos — have yet to arrive. Nevertheless, casino gaming is now legal in Bermuda. The country’s parliament approved legislation this past week to introduce casino gaming to the archipelago’s shores.
Establishing casino gaming in the territory has been a key initiative of Shawn Crockwell, Bermuda’s tourism minister. Crockwell first proposed resort-based casinos shortly after taking office in 2012, touting them as a means to reverse Bermuda’s lagging visitor arrivals. Bermuda faced a competitive disadvantage versus other warm-weather destinations which offered resort casinos, he said.
“In the past 30 years, Bermuda has moved from a tourism industry leader to an industry outsider,” said Crockwell in a December 12 ministerial briefing. “The Bermuda tourism sector has seen near zero compound annual growth in total visitation over the past three decades while during the same period global tourism has experienced exponential growth.”
Crockwell said the legislation, formally known as the Casino Gaming Act of 2014, “represents a significant and critical adjustment to our tourism product and to Bermuda as a destination.”
While he noted “There has been virtually no investment in new properties in Bermuda,” in decades, he said Bermuda “still has an opportunity to regain its position as a tourism industry leader” through “improved service levels and “new products which include new properties, amenities and entertainment activities.”
Resort-based casinos will also generate economic expansion and increase Bermuda’s tax revenues, Crockwell said.
“By no means is the introduction of casino gaming the panacea to revitalize our tourism industry,” he added. “But it can certainly be a catalyst for jobs and aid the recovery of tourism,” he said.
“By no means is the introduction of casino gaming the panacea to revitalize our tourism industry… But it can certainly be a catalyst for jobs and aid the recovery of tourism.” – Shawn Crockwell, Bermuda tourism minister
Crockwell said public opinion in Bermuda favors casino/hotel development. The minister held tree public forums at which he discussed casino during 2014, but later rescinded an earlier promise to sponsor a public referendum on the issue.
Some Bermuda officials and citizens oppose casino gaming in the destination on economic as well as moral and religious grounds.
Wayne Furbert, a current parliament member and Crockwell’s predecessor as tourism minister, told a Bermuda newspaper that passage of the legislation created one of the “saddest days of my career in politics” and predicted the casinos could attract “pole dancers and prostitution.”
“The Bill seeks to put in place a legislative and regulatory framework that will help provide an environment where the integrated resorts can succeed,” countered Crockwell.
He said the legislation will also seek “to mitigate the potential negative consequences of the casinos on our society.”

Beginning at 5 p.m. each Tuesday, players can swipe their B Connected card at any B Connected kiosk at the Orleans, Sam’s Town, Suncoast, Gold Coast, Fremont, Main Street Station or the California to make their picks. The player with the most correct straight-up picks during the weekend’s slate of professional football games will take home a $50,000 grand prize through the week of December 28. (In the event of a tie, first place finishers will split the grand prize.)
Pick the Pros starts a new competition every week, so even first-time players are eligible for a shot at the $50,000 grand prizes during the final weeks of football season.
“Since Pick the Pros is a free contest, players have no risk and all reward,” said Scucci. “It’s free and easy to play, and even late season players have the opportunity to win big.”
