Comedian Paula Poundstone Returns to The Orleans Showroom

Las Vegas— Comedian, actress, author, mother and cat-lover Paula Poundstone will return to The Orleans Showroom September 26-27, bringing her wry observational humor and a fresh stand-up act.

Poundstone spent the early ‘80s travelling the United States via public bus, honing her craft by performing at comedy clubs and open mic nights. She eventually landed in Los Angeles, where she stepped onto the national stage performing a stand-up comedy set on “Saturday Night Live” in 1984. Poundstone became the first woman to win a Cable ACE Award for a comedy special for her one-hour HBO special, “Cats, Cops, and Stuff.” She received her second Cable ACE Award for her self-titled HBO talk show series.

Poundstone had a huge year in 1992, working as a political correspondent for The Tonight Show and becoming the first woman to perform at The White House Correspondents Dinner. Her success continued throughout the 1990s, with “The Paula Poundstone Show” on ABC, a second HBO Special “Paula Poundstone Goes to Harvard,” and appearances on several television shows including “Cybill” and “Science Court” and voice work on “Hercules” and “Home Movies.” In 2006, she appeared in a BRAVO comedy special, “Paula Poundstone: Look What the Cat Dragged In.” Poundstone is the recipient of an Emmy® Award for her field pieces on the PBS program “Life & Times” and most recently appeared in the television documentary “Why We Laugh: Funny Women.”

Poundstone is a regular panelist on NPR’s weekly quiz program “Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me,” where her impeccable timing is key to the show’s format. She has also appeared on “A Prairie Home Companion” and written several magazine articles, including five years of writing the back page column in “Mother Jones,” and has authored multiple books, including “There’s Nothing In This Book That I Meant To Say.” Her first comedy CD, “I HEART JOKES: Paula Tells Them in Maine,” was released in 2009. Her most recent comedy CD titled “I HEART JOKES: Paula Tells Them in Boston,” was released in 2013.

Las Vegas— Comedian, actor and blues musician Jim Belushi along with blues band The Sacred Hearts will bring laughs and soulful hits to the Orleans Showroom October 4 and 5.

Jim Belushi is known worldwide for making people laugh as a regular on “Saturday Night Live,” his long-running comedy series “According to Jim” and his many film appearances. In addition to his film and TV career, Belushi’s music career blossomed in 1995 when he joined forces with House of Blues regulars, The Sacred Hearts. Soon after, friend Dan Aykroyd asked Belushi to join him as part of the Blues Brothers. To get ready to play with the Blues Brothers, Belushi would crash rehearsals for The Sacred Hearts. He had so much fun performing with them, they eventually merged professionally and have been performing as Jim Belushi and The Sacred Hearts.

Belushi and The Sacred Hearts have played for many notable figures including Al Gore, former President Bill Clinton and former Governor of California Gray Davis. The band frequently headlines shows at the House of Blues venues, benefits and hundreds of corporate events.

The band’s first CD, “36 x 22 x 36,” was released in 1998 and delivers a Memphis rhythm & blues sound seasoned with a lot of soul. Additionally, the “According to Jim Soundtrack” was released in 2005, containing the music by Jim Belushi & The Sacred Hearts featured in fan favorite series episodes. Much of the show’s music was written and recorded by Belushi and bandmates Johnny Rubano and Tony Braunagel, who also made regular guest appearances on “According to Jim.”

Band members include guitarist J.J. Holiday, vocalist/trumpet player Johnny Rubano, bassist Larry Lee Lerma, composer and saxophonist Joe Sublett, vocalist Julie Delgado, drummer Tony Braunagel and trumpet player Darrell Leonard.

Las Vegas— Concert goers will hear greatest hits from the Disney classics “Aladdin,” “The Little Mermaid” and Disney/Pixar’s “Toy Story” remixed to rock, pop, reggae, hip-hop, jazz and country, among other jams at Disney Live! Mickey’s Music Festival October 3, 4 and 5.

Goddess Swimwear from Today ShowLas Vegas— Powerhouse showman Earl Turner brings energy, excitement and entertainment in his return to the Suncoast Showroom, September 27-28.

After earning 50 cents for his first performance when he was 13 years old, Turner was smitten with show business, and by age 19 he was traveling the country as a frontman with various show bands. As a solo artist, Turner scored a Top 40 dance hit in Europe in the mid-1980s with “Love Caught You By Surprise.”

A renowned Las Vegas stage veteran, Turner has appeared at numerous resorts and showrooms on and off the Strip. In 2004, Harrah’s New Orleans transformed the Mansion Ballroom into The Earl Turner Theatre, where he performed for two years.

Turner has received numerous awards, including “Male Vocalist of the Year” by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. In 2005, Turner was voted one of the “People to Watch” by New Orleans Magazine and was inducted into the New Orleans Music Hall of Fame. He works closely with a number of prominent charities, including The Special Olympics, Opportunity Village of Las Vegas and The Blood Center of Louisiana.

Turner has unearthed his ‘80s cassettes for “My 80’s Contemporary Songbook,” a night of “totally awesome ‘80s music.”

Hilton Allows Guests to Select Their Exact Hotel Room

Sure, you’ve selected your seat from an airplane map by now.

But now you can choose which hotel room you want via a digital floor plan, courtesy of Hilton Worldwide.

In July, Hilton became the first hospitality company to offer room selection and customization via mobile and Internet-based floor plans. Part of a company-wide initiative to focus on the digital and technology space, the offering was conceived based on feedback from travelers.

“Number one, what we’re trying to do is give guests the ultimate in choice and control, really make sure it’s their vacation and that it’s custom to them,” said Dustin Bomar, Senior Director, Global Online Services at Hilton. “The second thing is, we were asking our consumers what they wanted to see, what they would use, what they would find valuable. And 84 percent of guests (in a global survey by Hilton) said if they had the option of choosing their room, they would do it. So, because the guests asked for it, that’s what we’ll provide.”

Guests can currently select their exact room online or via the Apple and Android HHonors apps across five Hilton U.S. brands: Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites and Home2 Suites. That covers nearly 1,000 Hilton hotels. The functionality will also be available at DoubleTree by Hilton and Embassy Suites Hotels properties within the U.S. this fall.

That’s in addition to digital check-in, digital checkout and the ability to order food, beverage and other items that will be waiting for you when you step into your hotel room.

By the end of 2014, digital check-in and room selection will be available at more than 4,000 Hilton Worldwide properties across 11 brands in 80-plus countries via members’ Hilton HHonors accounts.
