Carnival Cruise Line has agreed a deal to extend its stay in the gulf port of Mobile, AL.
Mobile mayor Sandy Stimpson said the Miami base line will continue sailing from the Alabama Cruise Terminal through December 2018.
The current deal expires this year and Carnival has opted to take up the one-year extension as detailed in the original contract.
“This is a really big deal for the city of Mobile … to me it’s an affirmation of their faith in Mobile,” said Stimpson.
“We continue to build the momentum of the growing cruise industry in Mobile and are committed to expanding the cruising options and destinations both in and out of our port.”
The port hosts Carnival Fantasy which offers four- and five-night cruises to Mexico.
Since the Fantasy began sailing from Mobile, it has generated $4.7 million in gross revenue and the overall economic impact to the region is expected to reach $35 million.
