TravelWild Expeditions has the Trip for you!
History, Wildlife, Exploration, & Adventure
TravelWild Expeditions, small ship experts for travel to off-the-beaten path destinations have great ideas for explorers – and those who want to be! A Small Ship Cruise to The Arctic has all the desirable elements. Whether visiting Iceland, Greenland, Arctic Canada or the North Pole, travel through a remote region of immense beauty with an intriguing history of past and present cultures and daring exploration.
The Classic Northwest Passage and Baffin Island explores Canada’s remote Northwest Passage and the stunning fjords of the Baffin Island coastline. Enjoy excellent wildlife encounters, Inuit community visits, exciting navigation through narrow and challenging passages, hikes on shore and superb photographic opportunities along the way. Visit the historic site of Fort Ross, located at the southern end of Somerset Island, a former Hudson’s Bay Company fur trading outpost. Beechey Island holds great historic importance on the journey through the Northwest Passage. It is here that Sir John Franklin’s ill-fated expedition spent its last ‘comfortable’ winter in 1845 before disappearing into the icy unknown. The stop here promises to be the defining moment of the expedition for history buffs.
The North Pole is the world’s northernmost point and a prize still zealously pursued by adventurers and explorers today. Conquer the Top of the World aboard the most powerful nuclear icebreaker in the world, 50 Years of Victory. Beginning and ending in Murmansk, Russia, this two-week itinerary has many highlights sure to thrill the most discerning explorer. Stand at the top of the world 90° N; view wildlife such as polar bears, walrus and other arctic animals; helicopter sightseeing above the Arctic Ocean; Zodiac cruising; Franz Josef Land historical sites, wildlife and wildflowers. The ultimate experience comes on Day 7 when everyone stands on ice at the geographic North Pole. All passengers join hands and literally walk around the world during a special International Round Dance. Everyone is treated to a barbeque meal on the ice, some even take the opportunity to plunge into the icy water! Specials include $2,500 off any Suite cabin for 2018 departures.
