Carnival Cruise Line’s newest big ship will boast another first for the industry – a shipboard rollercoaster.
The line has teased details of BOLT – Ultimate Sea Coaster on Carnival Mardi Gras, which will speed along an 800 feet long track at up to 40 miles per hour.
The track will wind around the iconic Carnival funnel and rise to 187 feet above the ocean.
It is an all-electric motorcycle-style roller coaster accommodating two riders.
Mardi Gras will be our most innovative ship ever, highlighted by BOLT, the first roller coaster at sea,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.
“BOLT will continue the tradition of Carnival providing exciting new ways for our guests to ‘Choose Fun.'”
Guests are able to choose their own speed on the ride.
It is planned as an included activity but the line said it may have to impose a fee to manage demand.
The Mardi Gras debuts in 2020 and will become the line’s largest ship yet.
