Princess Cruises is now offering Chinese cruisers the ability to pay for purchases using either Alipay and WeChat Pay aboard Ruby Princess.
It means Princess is the only line offering both modes of payments in North America.
They are available for retail purchases in the onboard boutiques.
Alipay is China’s most widely used digital wallet with about 900 million users.
It is expanding beyond digital transactions to in-store offline payments which is currently available in 40 countries and regions worldwide.
WeChat Pay now has about 800 million monthly active users.
“We have heard from our guests that incorporating Chinese mobile payment services provides a more convenient way to travel,” said Gordon Ho, Princess Cruises’ chief marketing officer.
The Majestic Princess was the first ship to offer payments in the digital wallets in 2017 during the ship’s deployment in Shanghai.
