The Government is cracking down on car and van rentals as part of a move to tackle terrorism.
According to the Sunday Telegraph, ministers have been holding meetings with car rental firms about bringing in tougher checks.
It follows a series of attacks, including Westminster, London Bridge and Finsbury Park in London, Nice and the attacks in Barcelona and Cambris last week, in which vehicles were used to drive into pedestrians.
In many cases, the vehicles have been rented.
The extra checks will include asking for more personal and financial details that can be cross-checked against criminal watch lists.
